Nice Rain!!

In SW Kansas that is. 1" + totals in some places.  Here in Central Iowa it is getting dry again with the wind and high temps.  Had a farmer call me this morning and was concerned about having enough moisture to plant corn in.  It is still early yet and one wet weather system could change things fast.  What is your soil moisture condition out side of your back door?  I have a hunch there will be a lot of corn planted next week around here.

Re: Nice Rain!!

Thanks Wind for mentioning it----it was.    A good shot of hail in the middle but this one came hard and fast with some power.  ---Like it was meant to be.  In the Hardesty, Okla. area some 3+ inch spots according to the radar.

I am a little worried about the hot and dry moving north this spring,  hopefully it does not sit in one place all summer this time.

Re: Nice Rain!!

Anybody ever loose wheat to freeze damage caused by hail?

I lost a corn field to freeze on June 5th once, on one of these hails where the hail stayed around the base of the small corn because the next day was cool and cloudy.  Took 7 hours for the hail to melt away.  Corn died.

Re: Nice Rain!!

One time lost a field of soybeans from hail getting too deep. Most fields were just riddled but in a certain area of the storm bean fields were dead brown. Hail piled up and froze them off. Storm was just before dark which did not help.
