Central and Northeast Ks that is.  A sharp cut off in rain to the west.  Some in Ellsworth County had 1.5" +.  Shaggy, did your wheat fields catch any?  Maybe a start for more rain.

Haven't made it to the farm yet, have a couple days off from work and using the morning to catch up on some office work (and a couple loads of laundry my honey asked me to do).  I'm planning on checking my wheat fields later this morning or early this afternoon.  Looking at the maps, it looks like the nice rain started one county east of me, but I'll keep my fingers crossed until I check it myself.  I'll report my finds later this evening.

We're getting it here in Mo. now.  We got a rain last wk. with some run-off and this one is giving us good run-off.  Hopefully that will recharge some ponds and city water resevoirs.

 Talked to a farmer the other day from the Ogallala, Neb. area and he said they are very worried about the irrigation water supply as they were already down to pumping only 300 gal. per min. late last summer.  He is planning on planting only 17,000 pop. of corn this yr. as opposed to his 36,000 just in case they run out of water.  No hope for the big ylds. in this case but maybe they'll have a chance to raise something.  Most of their wheat germinated and then blew away with the dry wind.

I guess that all depends on what one considers big yields.  I have a satellite which is one well for two pivots.  On one of the pivots, I traditionally only plant it at 18-20 thousand for population.  In a normal year with normal rainfall, this population still can achieve 200 bushels per acre.  I'm not far from Ogallala, and we're supposed to get between an inch and an inch and a half of precipitation this weekend.  The wheat does look pretty bad, but some of it might have some hope if we get this moisture.  The biggest concern most have around here is how much winter killed.  The guys who didn't get it up last fall have a better chance than those of us that did get it up.

OK boys here are the stats.  My southern acres received about .80" rain during the night. Not a drought buster by any means but that is the largest moisture we've received since Oct. 13, 2012 when we received .86".  Looks like a top dressing will be in order for these fields.

On my northern acres, about 11 miles straight north, just enough rain to settle the dust.  Didn't even register in a couple of rain gauges that I've got mounted to some fence posts.  Can you say LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.

I got up pretty early here this morning and seen on the weather that it sure looked like Shaggy was getting some rain , So I came over to the computer to ask him , THEN I got to thinking about yesterday and how poor Shaggy had got out of bed on the WRONG side and  I hit cancel on that post  !

I was afraid --what if he only got a sprinkle ? I said ECI he might rip you a new one !

.........all i know is the weather is in the looney bin.......The flora in my neck 'o the woods (Tx) began coming out 3-5 days ago.

This is about 3 -4 weeks early compared to "normal" years......i have no idea for sure of course, but could southern wheat come out of dormancy earlier than average?? Just fyi

shaggy, how are you feeling about the wheat crop in 2013 now? Any chance you'll grow an okay crop? What about corn.. Whats the climatologist ppl saying your way about this drought?

I'm getting more optimistic about the wheat crop with every shower we receive.  Rome wasn't built in a day.  Baby steps will work just as well.

Spring crops will need significant moisture before planting and/or an extreme amount of in season moisture.  At the present time, I feel corn has as good of a chance as any other planted crop.  I'm planning on corn, milo & oats, I guess we'll see.
