Not MN or IA, but.......................
....and with all due regard for the blizzard and wind chill conditions you guys in the great white north are enduring...
like the local weatherman said Monday, now the NWS has issued a statement:
Houston/Galveston, TX
Wed, Jan 22, 2014, 5:45 AM CST
... WINTER PRECIPITATION POSSIBLE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY...
A COMPLEX WEATHER PATTERN COULD BRING A WINTRY MIX OF RAIN... SLEET... SNOW AND FREEZING RAIN TO SOUTHEAST TEXAS THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING. AN ARCTIC AIR MASS WILL SURGE INTO SOUTHEAST TEXAS EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. VERY LIGHT RAIN SHOULD DEVELOP THURSDAY MORNING AS A WEAK UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE APPROACHES SOUTHEAST TEXAS. THINGS BECOME MORE COMPLICATED THURSDAY NIGHT AS VERY COLD AIR CONTINUES TO FILTER INTO SOUTHEAST TEXAS. PERIODS OF LIGHT RAIN WILL CONTINUE THURSDAY NIGHT AND SUB FREEZING TEMPERATURES AT THE SURFACE WILL ALLOW THE RAIN TO FREEZE ON CONTACT. THERMAL PROFILES ALSO SUGGEST THAT PRECIPITATION NORTH OF A BRENHAM TO CONROE TO LIVINGSTON LINE COULD MIX WITH OR CHANGE TO SNOW. SOUTH OF THIS LINE... THE FREEZING RAIN COULD MIX WITH OR CHANGE TO SLEET AS LOW LEVEL TEMPERATURES COOL. THIS WINTRY MIX WILL CONTINUE INTO FRIDAY BEFORE ENDING.
AT THIS TIME... IT APPEARS THAT SOME ICING OF BRIDGES AND OTHER ELEVATED SURFACES WILL BE POSSIBLE LATE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY. ALTHOUGH RAINFALL WILL BE LIGHT... EVEN SMALL ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE COULD BECOME HAZARDOUS. TOTAL LIQUID EQUIVALENT RAINFALL FOR THIS EVENT IS EXPECTED TO BE BETWEEN A TENTH AND TWO TENTHS OF AN INCH. A WINTER STORM WATCH OR WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY WILL LIKELY BE REQUIRED FOR THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY

Re: Not MN or IA, but.......................
Cx1 I['d rather have a blizzard anyday then an icestorm. We are use to the bitter cold by now and besides with remote car starters and most people working indoors the few minutes a guy is outside in the cold doesn't amount to much.

Re: Not MN or IA, but.......................
what with you guys, maybe not having such a good wheat crop and the northern Canadian wheat that can't go any where,
because of a lack of available grain rail cars etc. etc., plus northern USA wheat crop area, also having problems finding ways to move the wheat crop. Is this starting to get serious or not?
Will we be a tad light on the exports, if we can't fill the boats on time. This isn't Brazil, is it. Cheap prices in the interior, but not so many boats being loaded. Now you tell us about your wheat problems
What happens to our wheat price, if buyers can't get the boat loaded that they bought and thought was coming in a timely fashion
Can enough wheat be grown and shipped from the PNW and some more that makes it's way down the river,
satisfy the export market we do have??
Sure would hate to lose what ever export markets we have, just because we can't get the wheat loaded on the boat
Or?? Is having enough wheat, to load the boat, just a bunch of little things and nothing to worry about
Sorry to hijack your icy roads, but that wheat still in the ground hoping for some water, just sort of lead to this thought, and a whole bunch of other things
Is winter kill an issue, I have no experiece with wheat still not emerged,
plus dry and cold, prolly with little snow cover, at this time of yr
Did the snow all melt, the last warm spell, or what happened, down your way
Is this the begining of something?? not so good, for a variety of reasons

Re: Not MN or IA, but.......................
I keep wondering how much new track has been laid since Buffet bought the railroad?
We have a great advantage in our transportation system, but overall, we are getting a lot of age in places.

Re: Not MN or IA, but.......................
This area hasn't received any snow this year with the exception of a flurry here and there. Go just 20 miles south of me and they received over a foot of snow about a month ago. Haven't had any measurable precipitation in this area since November 4th. We've had dust storms here this winter that shut down several miles of highway on multiple highways for reduced visibility. I'd say we are in serious condition. Before dormancy set in I could row all my crop at 60MPH, today I have to nearly slow to a crawl before I can row it. No doubt about it, we are dry.
