Re: OK ...here's my prediction

Jim, recently more of our Ohio weather is coming from the NW.  For years SW was our dominant wind so much that all trees in any woods lean to the NE.  This weather from the NW began about 10 years ago.  The storms cross Lake Michigan, pick up moisture, and dump it all here.

An article in the newspaper today said we set a rainfall record in 2011 with 48.79".  That is 14.55" above normal.  June was the only drier than normal month.

Re: OK ...here's my prediction

NW we didn't set a record down here hear Dayton, but it was close. We had a little over 57" for the year just 2" shy of setting the record. Wish we could have had more of that rain in June, Jule and August but....  It is still wet here and there is a few hundred acres of corn up the road waiting for the ground to freeze. Sorry to hear some of the northern OH guys still have beans in the field. Most must be snapped by now.

I just don't know what to expect from the weather this year but my guess is it will at least start wet. 🙂

Re: OK ...here's my prediction

Wow southwest you had 9" more than us and didn't set a record!  1 more reason corn is an iffy crop here.  If it is hot and dry during those critical few weeks forget it and that's what happened in 2011.  Beans recovered from the late July on...  rains but not as good as in 2010.  I recently sold all my feeder cattle as it is just plain to wet and sloppy in the feeding yard and no long term poor mans concrete weather in sight.

Re: OK ...here's my prediction

Your crop probably got off to a good start.  We were wet at planting time so some was mudded in.  Then it turned hot and dry for 7 weeks.  Only 7 tenths from May 25-July 18.  I had a creek bottom farm I usually plant last.  By the time I got to it the ground was super dry.  It had very poor emergence.  Then it flooded twice.  Crop insurance adjuster asked if the loss was a result of conditions too wet or too dry.  I answered yes.  Ha.
