Our Brazilian competitors

Bolsonaro goes full FOX and gonna let the cVirus rip- only a bunch’s old folks anyway and he says he’s an athlete and just immune.

Cant know how it might play out- thus far transmission is slower in the tropics.

But of course winter is coming there and BRA does have a couple of the worlds densest cities.

Re: It's interesting to watch how different governments approach the problem.

For anyone interested in how different political & economic systems respond to & the outcomes toward a serious non-political challenge, this is a remarkable opportunity.

The Chinese government, who first tried to suppress the news but then responded with draconian measures which only an authoritarian government could, has succeeded to suppress the pandemic with major economic damage.

Then there's the South Koreans, who quickly adopted aggressive massive testing, contact tracing and quarantine appears to have avoided almost all the damage.

The Italians, who were late to respond and who's population didn't cooperate, have failed to blunt the course of the epidemic and will have to suffer the full effects.  Spain's right behind them.

The Americans, who despite lots of warning,  deliberately failed to act early enough and now we're going to see if an open society can have enough discipline to avoid the worst.

And then there's Britain, whose government first adopted this ridiculous "herd immunity" idea only to watch their death rate soar and finally reversed course.

And now Brazil, whose government policy is a completely hands-off approach.

And finally, there's the African governments who could really respond even if they wanted to.

Yes, it's going to be interesting.

Don’t know what Germany is doing right but they are holding their death rate at less than 10 pct of Italy and Spain. I assume just enough CCU space and ventilators.

We won’t reach that tipping point where the systems start to get overwhelmed probably for another few days.

I guess NY is already there.

Re: It's interesting to watch how different governments approach the problem.

Had a conversation with a very well travelled through education, govt service and now a Fortune 500 Jr. Exec ( those 1st 2 got her that job, btw) . We were speculating places where  what would happen were unthinkable. Immediately came up with Nairobi and Santiago.

Iran giving us the proof.  But, then, forbour Thumpers in the crowd that’s probably just Jehovah at work.
