Re: "The other side", if that's the argument, you've already lost.

China`s national debt is 300% of GDP, their only out is to export and if they cut strings with the US, they are screwed.

But your pessimist posts are very premature, I get it you don`t like that Trump isn`t falling for the global warming hoax, isn`t for open borders and you don`t like the abandonment of the Benetton Woods policy of putting America second in the global order.

So, after an America first trade policy with the ChiComs the grain markets aren`t limit up every day the first week, you call it a "failure".  And if it was days of limit up, then you`s say "yes, but it still isn`t higher than the 2013 levels".   You just don`t like President Trump and for reasons beyond agricultural trade and that is fine and your right.

$3.00 + basis on beans in interior of Brazil, do you know their answer/solution?

Plow up more square kilometes...

More beans next year.

If the margin of profit is small.

just need more bushels.

BTW: 79° F here last two mornings.

Tourist prices here are off the chart.

2 half raw hamburgers/fries and ice tea... $80

Buffet breakfast for two $91.20

Should have sold couple more loads of those green beans for $9.20 couple weeks ago.

Irony is that Disney Orlando is shutting down water-park rides yesterday, today, and tomorrow due to "Freezing Florida Weather"

400 million Chinese on-the-move during their New Year celebrations

New "Wuhan virus" - a pneumonia-like virus...

....most likely easily spread human-to-human ("confounding expectations").  A virus that has killed.  Most likely an "aggressive pathogen."

Already spread to Japan and other Asian countries and with first case now in the United States (Washington State).

What could go wrong?  (/sarc)

They say that pneumonia that jumps species is a factor in today`s sell off, perhaps as much as the lack luster Phase One.

When was the last time anyone heard of a hazmat suit being used by the professionals when checking out the ill.....Ebola?

This last weekend, there were supposedly only 139 Wuhan virus cases.  Now 3 days later, there's 320????

An American man with the new coronavirus has been identified in Washington state, CDC officials said on Wednesday, bringing the total number of countries with cases of the deadly virus to five outside of China, including the US, Thailand, Japan South Korea and Taiwan

@BA Deere

Update:  Now it is being reported that the ENTIRE city of Wuhan has been quarantined.  If that is the case, that is a quarantine of ELEVEN MILLION people.  It is also being said that hundreds have died (not just 6) and that 1700+ are infected (not 300).

1.  As you said, this is a novel (new) virus that is believed to have jumped species to humans and spreads through coughing/saliva/sneezing.

2. From what I am reading, cause of death is multi-organ failure.  Considering that it is a novel virus, that sounds almost like a cytokine-storm response (which is what is believed to have caused most of the deaths in the 2003 SARS cases and the 1918 flu pandemic).

Considering how fast it is said to be spreading and the severity of the symptoms, if the above is true (and not people panicking with rumors), not good at all.

Well, look on the bright side, if half of China dies off they won't be needing as much soybean, beef & pork now, will they.

Re: Well, look on the bright side,....

Don't think that didn't cross my mind...

Latest update:

Now China's official tally is 440 cases across 13 provinces, with 9 dead.  And now they are warning that the virus could mutate, but they still do not know the original animal source of the virus.

Re: Well, look on the bright side,....

I am not up on this virus ..... and why is it named for a Mexican Beer........ Is that indicative of source or style?

And why would there need to be an animal source?  Does that animal need to fly internationally?

I was thinking that the lack of beef in the diet was possibly a target for the virus.

The US Press moving on from the orange virus?  Did the AFS project fail, did china give up on public sympathy?

Is Reuters the mouthpiece on this one as well?   We can surely trust the press on this one.  Or can we?

The haz mat look in transportation gear, seems like a great look for me....... I want that every time I encounter parents in a airport.  The clips I say didn't seem very sincere.  Pretty much random and staged for the camera.
