Bad case of hard pan about 12" down. Previous experience with them seems they are beneficial in concentrating N in the top 15 inches plus making a hole in hard ground for moisture to soak in faster. The end of June with the high rainfall out there the terraces were full of water and the almost level ground only had a 12" moisture profile.
Don't put anything else with them, moisture conservation in that sense. 150# of radishes on 25 acres. At that low rate last time could not tell any difference in subsoil moisture profile the next spring.
