Pics of 1st US Corn Emerge
I took these pics of Central Texas Corn about 40 mi NNE of Austin today - This belt represents about 30% of Tx Corn or 500,000 ac total = .6% Total US acreage. Roughly half of what we saw was emerged & 3-5 " tall. Would assume this will all be in/close the bin by Aug 1.

Re: Pics of 1st US Corn Emerge
Great photos, c-x-1. What a great find in Texas, as cold weather and snowcover remains on the minds of many in the U.S. Delta and Upper Midwest. Despite all of those rocks in those fields, that corn looks like it's off to a great start. That could be some of the first corn to hit the market, in the U.S. this year.
Thanks for sharing the photos and taking time to crawl out the car and snap them. We appreciate it. Maybe we can keep an eye on that Austin corn as it progresses?
Thanka,
Mike

South Central Iowa, (South Podunk Country to be specific) This morning...
Winter hasn't given up yet.
The weather rock is white so according to the instructions I got with it ... it is snow. Just took this about 10 minutes ago.

Daffodils are in full bloom in north central Arkansas right now, last year they were doing it here now. BTW they and the naked ladies are only about 3 inches out of the ground here this year. Not supposed to be over 42 degrees the rest of the week here. Oh joy.

Re: Pics of 1st US Corn Emerge
It was a neat "find" Mike and it's my pleasure and opportunity.....I had only ever seen this tiny belt on the NASS map. The wife and I just "happen" to have business N. of Austin this weekend in a location I'd never visited before.
Just got out the old Rand McNally road atlas, picked the straightest route from Houston......AND what do you know, 30-45 min from our arrival...there it was.
As we drove on this little highway westward It began w/ comments like, "look @ these huge dark fields of dirt all around"...a few more miles west it became, " there's something starting to grow - MUST BE CORN - WOW."
"when purpose and timing meet, interesting photo's are resulting"

Re: Pics of 1st US Corn Emerge
My two corn growing contacts in the Corpus area claim they have not planted any corn yet. Too dry. Note pics look pretty dry to me.
