Re: Planting progress

Good memory, NDf

.....appreciate all your reminders, just checkin' in with Shaggy about soil and all after last week's weather............it's great to learn about how y'all operate in the field...I have much respect for mother nature..........we are right back in 80-95* temp range here, so I know how fast things can progress.

Re: Planting progress

35 miles SE of St. Paul, MN. 2-3" of fresh white stuff with some sleet too. 2 weeks minimum before we can even think about doing some tillage. That's if mother nature decides to ease up a bit. She's been a real female dog lately!

Re: Planting progress

Haven't seen anything planted in Ohio, I may start later this week if it stays dry. Checked with my brother said he hadn't seen anything in the Delmarva area.

Re: Planting progress

I remember a post or story a few weeks ago about a lot of corn planted in Arkansas ---think they were just trying a fast start.......the soil was a bit too cool, so 3-4 wks later still no emergence........since i don't have a degree in Agronomy, what does y'alls experience/wisdom in the fields tell you about how the corn seed is embryonically effected if it's environs are too cool for too long?

thanks....

gio, i'm thinking where you planted----you don't want ANY soil!   Smiley Very Happy

Re: Planting progress

Our soils can fluctuate up to 10F a day depending on the air temperature. I probed the ground this morning and it was right at 50F. We've got a couple of cooler days forecasted later in the week, but I've got a small planting window to get-r-done, that's what happens when you've got a full time off the farm job. The long range forecasts are calling for warmer temps other than the two, so I'm going to get started tomorrow. I decided to let the milo herbicide wait a few days until the corn is all planted. Hopefully everything works out.

Re: Planting progress

Thanks for the prompt response, I see that their thermal fluctuation is very broad and I understand that corn hybrids temparaturas support those who sow your window or planting the seed requires risking germinancion achieving ...
