Re: Railways to Halt Shipments?

Biden could stop the strike (he won`t) congress can step in but the socialist senator from Vermont won`t stand up to the unions.  I thought I heard they agreed to a pause beyond the Friday midnight deadline.  Nh3 and other risky goods that can`t be sitting on traincars in populated areas aren`t being loaded in case of a prolonged strike, so without actually happening, it still is effecting supply.

A strike would selfishly effect many hardworking people, way beyond the railworkers.   The timing (before harvest) is a page out of the annual strike that the dockworkers coordinate in Brazil.

All Americans are hardworkers, I see that all over, those in factories, warehouses, even the guy who drives a 2002 Ford Taurus to his $16/hr job at Kwik Trip is a hardworker.   I realize where I name the jobs out loud of occupations of those living high on the hog, it does get some people`s Irish up (not to pick on the Irish, but they do like to fight).

I call a job that`s high on the hog where you never drive a older than 2 yr old car, take multiple trips over the year (the $16 guy at Kwik Trip can`t afford that) .  Living high on the hog means if you need a plumber or electrician or carpenter you hire one, you don`t do those jobs yourself.   Oh I know, if you say "teachers need more, nurses need more, the railroad needs more"  people clap & clap, it`s what we do or you`re the skunk at the garden party.

Farmers and truckdrivers as a group don`t have the luxury of going on strike, we are "price takers" not price setters.  Some will say "You knew the rules, why don`t you quit instead of whiiiining?"  Well, I`m not whining, farming is fun, too much fun and that`s the main problem too many are willing to pay a lot for admission to the toy filled sandbox.

But, I wouldn`t be "middle class" if I weren`t my own electrician, plumber and carpenter.  My pickup has over 200,000 miles and my Wife`s work car has over 300,000 miles ... that`s just the fact.  We had a a toilet that wasn`t flushing right, I did everything above ground and the last thing was to dig up the septic tank pump that out with a Honey Wagon while it was opened up.  A plumber would`ve probably handed me a $3,000 bill we couldn`t afford that, might`ve said I needed a new $15,000 septic tank too.  Do my own shingling, built an addition and a deck, ect  We don`t make that high on the hog money, but saving money is the only thing that keeps us "middle class".

I guess that`s all I`ve ever known so wouldn`t know any differently.  Few years ago Iowa was going in the wrong direction Culver was governor and he and Dem state politicians wanted to essentially zone the state where you`d have to hire an electrician to put in a simple electrical outlet.  Actually real electricians were against it, they are far too busy doing legitimate work without the fascist state finding extra work for them.  Well, we kicked them politicians out and things are good now.  But that`s just an example of people living high on the hog, getting a bug in their butt to run for political office and not having one clue on how those of us in the bottom 2/3rds have to live.  That upper 1/3 is detached from reality!   Something for them to think about while they are charging their electric car.

Re: Railways to Halt Shipments?

Good Post, BA.

I have to admit that my carpentry , electrical, plumbing, etc skills are nothing to brag about, but I have my cousin that is my right hand man that does know all of that and shaves tens of thousands off of our yearly repair expenditures.

God bless him!

Amazing how much they get done in the last minute 😀   However union members have to yet agree, it might be just a formality.

Re: Railways to NOt Halt Shipments

I thought yesterday you were off your game a bit there BA.....

Biden will absolutely end the rail strike..... He needs the election help here at the midterms and who else to provide it but Unions that are in near monopoly positions.

And naturally the communist press steps in to fan the flames of fear and build the pedestal for "the big guy" to drool from.

Nurses are going to  pop the bubble they have been living in.  They have been in a profession that pays bonuses to move for years now.....  Let them go on strike and shut down the Hospitals bleeding the taxpayers with positive covid test results.  This is the premidona industry built on fake anxiety and fear (and federal subsidy) Watch the news and see how many of those overstressed nurses are wearing their mask.  Ask yourself how they can have time to strike with all their therapy and anxiety?   But its an election year. all unions are in the streets to save a political party..... not a doubt.l

Re: Railways to NOt Halt Shipments

I`m often off my game SW, I`m getting old 😀   Yeah, the strike will end or be adverted and Biden will take credit like "killing Bin Laden" but Biden won`t go "Ronald Reagan" on the union like the 1981 air traffic controllers.   These days there`s all these classes of professions where we aren`t allowed to question their wages, we`re just supposed to shovel money to them.

There`s one huge exception on that and that`s the Military.  Administration says `go on food stamps if your pay isn`t enough` .... just sickening

Interesting to see evidence that there is still a John Birch Society caucus in the later day “conservative” movement.
