Really dry anywhere?
We usually hear from many farmers about how dry it is and how the crops are burning up. I wonder if we just don't have many disaster areas this year. Anyone care to disagree?

Re: Really dry anywhere?
No drought here. We are wet here, but not near to the extreme of others. All crops went in in idea conditions and early. Over four inches of rain in the last week. I have no idea how to judge yields this year, so I am not going to try to guess. One concern I have is corn on good ground is firing, some up to the ear, worse as you walk into the field, silks are just starting to turn brown. Has anyone done leaf tissue test on this corn yet? Of course the river bottoms here are easy to judge...ugly.

Re: Really dry anywhere?
Interesting year, planted way early, too wet here and there, but G&E conditions #s are very good. Much has pollinated, an average year means good and bad, if weather is average from here, I am guessing a new high in yields.
With good planting weather, why did planting fall off so much?
Artifice

Re: Really dry anywhere?
We are not overlly dry here but we could use some rain. Rain has fallen north, south, east and west of here but we have only recieved a half inch of rain in the past month, with 90 degree temps that isnt much. I wouldnt say its a wide spread dry area by any means, just a dry spell once again for this particular area. I have also heard of the eastern states like Pennsilvania are in a drought

Re: Really dry anywhere?
In my area of Central KS, we have been having wetter weather than historically normal. Rains came just in time to save some corn from firing, however, there are fields that were hurting from earlier excess moisture, was short rooted and now are stressed badly. Mine looks pretty good, so far. Beans have had their feet wet too long and yellowing is showing up in low lying areas. Not enough sunshine to encourage growth either. This week, however, is very hot with high humidity, so things might get interesting if rains shut off. In short, a farmer always has reason to complain.
We traveled to MN last week and northern Missouri, southern Iowa has late planted corn, many fields show excess moisture stress, leaching of nitrogen, etc. Very uneven fields. Northern Iowa is the typical garden spot this time of year.

There is one thing I don't want to hear in a few weeks; that if prices rally it will kill demand. There has been months for end users to protect the upside. Greed goes both ways.

Re: Really dry anywhere?
Colorado has been wet as well. Most the corn has been behind but is starting to catch up with the heat and no moisture. The corn crop should be the same as last year, which was average to good

Re: Really dry anywhere?
Parts of central PA have already destroyed the corn crop. Totally dry and brown by July 4. There is an area from central Pa through Maryland and into Virginia that have also already lost the corn crop. Just heard today of a 3500 acre Virginia operation that will run the combine on no more than 1200 acres, and that is due to being able to irrigate most of that acreage

Re: Really dry anywhere?
Yes we are dry in west Ky. After 17 inches of rain on May 1 & 2 , we zeroed the rest of the month, which was great for getting all that drowned, replanted. We received less than 2 inches in June and had temps 95+ for three weeks during this time, and all early corn ie what did not drowned was tassselling. There are thousands of acres of corn here that are hurt 25-40%.My guess is 125- 145 if we can get some moisture to finish.Last year lots of 200+yields here.We did get .6-1.0 inch Monday, this has helped a lot as early beans are blooming, where we got the rain in June the beans are straddle high where the rain missed they are only boot top high. The one bright side is the wheat came off early and the double crop beans got a head start on the drought . The stand on them is execellent , they just need some moisture.Reported failed corn and replant to insurance today, the numbers on this are 10% failed and 8% replanted. The replant is waist high and will tassell last week of July , not good for sure.Kudoes to those with great crops no better feeling than a rally with a bumper crops.
