Thanks to the marketing snowflakes we haven’t had to listen to the morbid reports from the harvest fields.
With snowflakes 2+ feet deep in unharvested fields in the dakotas, we have more snow cover in October than we’ve seen for a while. Snowflakes in the next few days in Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa in levels yet to be seen. On saturated soil with standing water...... maybe we will need to see frozen ground soon. Point is when things are bad most are keeping it private because............. it’s that bad
Keep pluggin’ With chin up... looks like a long road ahead. If you feel up to talking about the mess that harvest is —— give us full load, both barrells.

Please be careful, last Saturday I made a trip to the Texas panhandle for some wheat seed. In a early morning fog we waited patiently while a local man ina hurry to somewhere ran a sign and flashing lite to destroy a semi with a load of corn in a ball of fire that only one Escaped. 25 miles away a 12 row pass in a corn field yielded the hidden body of a 23 year old male.
Issues we drive up on just gettin some seed—. the snowflakes that trade grain and advise and pretend relevance will not care because they’re snowflakes— the irrelevant parasites of commodity production.

You my fellow producers have a grave task ahead of you and losses to absorb and limit. Be diligent and careful and patient .... we will get there.

On the tweeter there`s all kinds of beans sprouting out of the pods, corn going flat.  WHO radio interviewed a guy that got everything planted early in good conditions (south of Des Moines), it July "best crop ever ever ever coming!!!  🙂  🙂  :)"  then 3 weeks ago "Hmmm we might get thing wrapped up early!!!  🙂   🙂  🙂  " .   But rain and poor conditions have a reversal of fortunes, many are figuring 10% less yield and getting worse.  But out west beans under snow...unless they drop a lot in the collection plate this Sunday, those beans are probably gone.   But out west, they go to the PNW and China isn`t in the market.  RayJ had a article on the other site about those being "refugee beans" there may not be beans for China to buy, even if they were in the market.

Ok SW,

Made a trip yesterday along hwy 34 in southern Iowa and eastern  Neb.

From the fifty mile marker on west most beans are leaning to small areas all but flat.

As we went farther west it got worse, as we got 15 miles in to Neb much worse, not all fields but many. 

At thirty miles in, some appeared to be 75% down, many went down in a swirly pattern. Any measurable snow tomorrow will be disastrous in those fields.

Majority of corn fields are losing the tops, lots of lodging.

Very small percentage of either crop harvested the whole way.

The few corn fields that had been harvested for several weeks are turning green with volunteer corn, appear to be solid seeded.

Lots of loss, pray for no wind and only snow flurries tomorrow.

This all said there is still literally millions of harvestable bu there, but less every day. Had to run the windshield wipers the whole trip out. Harvested fields were the exception rather than the rule. 5%,  10% at best.

At least 50% of the beans had green or yellow stems, some had leaves still on bottom foot or so. A freeze and dry weather are desperately needed.

USDA pulled the harvest progress numbers from thin air. ( the “fake” numbers).
Our local crop progress on the southern Ks border, is 20% harvested beans and 24%.corn. Not the 56% they gave the state of Ks.

Thanks for the encouragement.  Yesterday I was combing corn driving through standing water, running water and at times, had to use my brakes to steer the combine on side hills. But we were going until a gear box went out on the corn head.  This the second time this Fall, not a cheap quick fix.  The stalks are tough and adding stress on the gear boxes?  We are not making huge ruts.  The auger wagon stays at the end of the field.

An observation:  Corn I harvested 3 1/2 weeks ago went out at 17% corn yesterday was at 19% . We all know why.  Looking at the calendar, and the condition of the crops we have to harvest even if conditions are far from ideal for corn.  The beans will need days of sunshine before  we run and there are lots of beans yet to go.

I always have been amazed that government reports are accurate only to the people who benefit from what the report says.

Same with markets...they are always wrong to the people who are being hurt by their price movement.

Well the snowflakes added up to four inches in east central Nebraska.

Wet and very heavy, the down beans are now flat in very large areas of the fields.

It’s not funny to watch. It’s just plain sickening. Up in western Canada there is a lot of grain still in the field. It’s been about 6 weeks since I turned a wheel while some guys have picked at some acres that will likely spoil before it gets dried as there are propane shortages everywhere. And every week there’s another 9-10 points harvested. You can drive 500 miles and not see one combine rolling but somehow the crop report keeps saying it’s coming in. It’s criminal how the markets only like to report on how good everything is and not how bad it is. When the funds control the markets the farmer will never get paid anything but pennies to scrape by. Grain markets should only trade physical grain and then you would hear the negative news as fast as it happens. Instead all we read is next year everyone will have a bumper crop and carryover stocks will rise.
