Southern MN pretty much shut out of rains
West of Mankato....15 mile radius of farms.... .15 to .25 total rain over the last few days of "rain events". Hardly settled the dust. Irrigators are all running full steam now.
Still a nice potential, though, but at the best will be a far cry from last years bin buster. Went up to the highway 212 area for an irrigation and bin parts run and lots of fields of droughty corn and soybeans there. Was amazed at how the corn seemed to be hanging in there, though, while the beans were clearly stunted.

Re: Southern MN pretty much shut out of rains
NE of Mankato - had a surprise tenth early Friday morning and since rain follows rain.........
that set us up for 1.2" Friday night & Saturday morning.
Foggy this morning = 1/4 mile visibility and very wet = almost like another tenth.
Beans are going to soak this up!!

Streaky might be appropriate to describe things.

Quite surprised
Drove from Mpls to Edgerton yesterday morning
From the intersection just N of you to Windom on 60 and the across W if a person had been sleeping under a tree and hadn’t watched the news or read anything we would have had no suspicion that it had been dry at all by looking at fields.
Back at the starting point we haven’t taken the lawn mower out for 6 weeks. Hoping the lawn genuinely dormant as “they say” and not stone dead, like it looks. Much here apparently as it is in Central, NW etc.

Re: Quite surprised
NCIA received little more than bupkus, Rochester Mn reported 3" . On a 60mph crop tour i wouldn`t trade crops with the highway 14 corridor as their soils are lighter and the final tally will show Iowa ice cream soils win out. I don`t hang my hat totally on the "phenotype" of these new genetics (meat for the bears) I`m all about pod counts, pod fills, population, ears and kernel size.
This from Twitter, Franklin co Iowa "Looks good from the road!"

Yes. What I said good from the road.
14 seems to be a divide from what one hears. Talked to some kids at the reunion who had been up in W Central MN who reported having seen barren corn.
Beans on high ground greened up in a couple of days but I’d suspect hindered some.

Record acres of silage
This year.. Could easy bring harvested acres for corn grain to 80million or Less.
Just lots of spots that may be cow chow.
Lucky the govt is In.
Silage is like hauling a lot of darn water in a Little feed.

Re: Record acres of silage
Oh yeah, a lot of silage will be chopped this year to stretch the short hay crop. Wyoming hay that usually goes into Dyersville hasn`t shown up, that`ll have a long tail all the way around.

Re: Record acres of silage
Good Post BA.
I kinda figure the Wyo hay to Dyersville is is long gone to like Montana this year. Grant it might be in Dakota too.
Yep short hay and relatively cheap corn equals to chop more corn silage this year bout everywhere. Granted there's big areas of no eared corn, big areas 10 to 80 bushel corn to.
Makes for kinda OK feed and keep in mind uncle has pretty good corn disaster payments so in some respects that's kinda like chopping free feed.
