Southern Plains operators ... keep checking in!

I'm having a hard time determining the real rainfall and where, since it seems patchy. What have you gotten by now? I do know that some areas haven't received any, or enough to really help, but I'm kind of guessing. Have some areas received good amounts of moisture? Did the last freeze cause further damage? Central Kansas?

My Central Kansas total is 0.00" Some winterkill, worst for guys that conventional till and had their ground very powdery when they sowed. No-till avoided most of the winterkill but still some damage in a few spots. Wheat is hanging on and there are more rain events forecast from mid-week on.

Re: Southern Plains operators ... keep checking in!

Central Nebraska, I know, we are more Central plains, but this morning, we had PUDDLES in the yard.   This is the second time, all year, that we had puddles.   The first time, was from snowmelt, this time was from an actual rainstorm.   Going by past experience, it takes a half inch of rain, give or take, for us to get puddles, and this is the first rain we had that big, all year.  Total rain, came closer to 3.4 inch, which will do little to break the drought, but it will green up the grass.  We did some post holes, and we had 6 inches of 'some' moisture, followed by powder dry, to the bottom, before this.

Check these KS rain gauges.  Looks like some good rain Gove, Rooks and a few others. Still rather scattered.http://www.cocorahs.org/state.aspx?state=ks

Re: Southern Plains operators ... keep checking in!

Central Kansas, .02"-.05". Settled dust till mid morning. Calling for additional rain come Wednesday. I'll believe it when I see it. This area has now stopped making plans according to the weather forecasts, just assume it won't rain. So far, batting 1000.

NW of me about 100 miles or so received nice rain for a few hours. I've heard reports of between 2"-3". Can't confirm that, just coop talk this morning.

Re: Southern Plains operators ... keep checking in!

Felt good to have some clouds without high wind but palouser, for the most part very poor weather event.  Oklahoma map shows how poor it was in the wheat areas of nw and north central counties.

Thank you dallasguy.

Re: Southern Plains operators ... keep checking in!

I have a sense of what you all are going through. There appears to be some bit of hope but I'm gathering that central Kansas and down into OK and Texas have been fairly badly treated by fate. But there is some need to try and establish the facts on the ground more than the weather maps I guess. I'm not sure if those who have a decent stand of grain are too polite to announce their good fortune knowing many haven't gotten there's yet or whether, so far, the weather events are pretty much a bust where it counts.

But my sense it that if a warm spell comes anytime soon the fix will be in.
