Soybean Trading Months?

I've historically been a hedger and usually just sell Nov beans and Dec corn on the board, and river-close on cash beans and early spring on cash corn.

For those of you who trade the markets, do you tend to trade closer months rather than what some might call harvest times?

In other words, would you be selling May or July soybeans rather than Nov if you are a trader?

I'm just trying to learn something about the trading practices of people who are not hedgers but more traders and I understand some of you on this site do some trading.

Jim,
I like trading the front months due to volume. I like the ability to get in and out quickly.

I do opposite I like establishing a position on a distant month 8-18 months out, then give the market time to move and work in in the established trading range. I have the benefit of time to grow the position or out live a move.

I always view the position as an attempt to hedge or buy a bargain.

Sw,
As you know Patience is everything. I don’t care to risk ever single day. Try to see price levels for opportunities.
