TID BITS

Seems to be no recession on travel. Airports are full of people moving about.

Had the opportunity to ride a large plane very recently, 10 wide seating, very few vacant seats. Saw no empty first class pods.

We were last ones on, sat in the rumble seats. Found out there are crew rest bunks overhead in rear of that model of plane. Had never thought about how the crew handled some of those 12 plus hr international flights. Couple of our crew disappeared up there for awhile.

The windows didn't have pull down shades, you just turned a selector below the window to one of half dozen darkening shades which could go clear to black.

Rental car companies lots were pretty bare.

Food prices are somewhat noticeably higher here. Was in a Costco, Walmart, and Safeway looking for grub.

Good place to stop for noon lunch.

Re: TID BITS

I see urea @$575 ton.

Hearing of reports of dyed diesel at under $3. Still over $4 here.

Simple savings/money market accounts have broken through the 4% level. Finally

Cash Beans climbed back over $15 today.

Corn that is in short supply from here west and south is struggling in the $6.7something price range.

Propane offered at $1.72.

Re: TID BITS

just made another call

$3.30 higher one was $4.19

Quite a spread on #2 dyed.

2000 gal quantity.

Someone caught with old priced fuel or just trying to catch a sucker?

Re: TID BITS

well we seemed to have survived another USDA report..

Soy and corn prices are both priced with better basis as you go west from central Iowa.

We lost 10¢ on bean basis when cash went over $15.

Must have triggered some sales.

RSBS are you still holding tight?

Re: TID BITS

Local basis here -17 corn -25 beans.   6.27    14.54

Decatur ADM +27 corn  +25 beans     6.71     15.03

No yellow piles anywhere and we had a excellent corn crop

Re: TID BITS

Re: TID BITS

We used to have a guy in town that claimed he drove his truck to Hawaii.  We thought he was a little "touched".  Maybe he was just a better driver and in on the secret!!

Re: TID BITS

Occasionally, there`ll be a car with Hawaiian plates around here.  At my 5th year class reunion a gal who "never had trouble getting dates" showed up with a guy she`d met on a plane a few hours prior and and he drove her there in a Jeep with Hawaiian plates  ... 😀  NOMB    I wonder if it isn`t so much where the car comes from, as where it`s licensed.    I suppose cars could be economically ferried to and from the mainland?

Re: TID BITS

My guess is that it is cheaper to ship your vehicle there for the winter than buy one or rent one.

No all snow birds are in Arizona or Florida.
