Texas Anomaly

See that weather over the Texas panhandle this morning? That's that high level low I spoke about last night. Just sitting spinning. Anyway, from my perspective this morning, we look drier. Market is a tad lower, not sure what they're looking at - maybe that anomaly down in Texas. The rain event a week away is pretty weak, after that nothing again. And that event favors WI and the ECB. I still think this market is out of touch with what's going on weather wise. We'll see. I still say - show me the rain.

Re: Texas Anomaly

While the boys in Chicago are telling us........"show me the no rain thing."

It's funny that with a forecast of rain, the markets can go down hard.   Yet with a forecast of hot and dry, the traders want to see it hot and dry before it effects the markets.

Re: Texas Anomaly

I should probably also add that the low pressure in Canada has moved farther north. The front dipping out of it across the US as of now is producing nothing, and it looks to stay that way. Which is why I said we look drier. The front is not really replacing an air mass, therefore not producing the lift you need to develop thunderstorms. It's weak, the pressure gradient associated with it is small. Could it spark some showers, maybe, nothing widespread. It's hot, dew points are massive. Instability due to daytime heating can provide the lift to get scattered thunderstorms, but this front isn't going to provide anything of real significance. Sorry. Next event is a week away, unless you can move that Texas anomaly over your farm.

Re: Texas Anomaly

Rt, this whole maker approach this year is weird. It's like - this is where I am, and I'll not be moved - sorta thing. It's why I've been afraid of. The knee jerk reaction thing that I've spoken about. I don't know. I. Guess since Texas produced that huge crop with no rain, I guess the Midwest can too.

Re: Texas Anomaly

West central Illinois where our corn is just beginning to pollinate. Beans are still short to very short. Have not seen too much stress from the heat yet as the roots are heading down to subsoil. It has been at least 10 days since we received a half inch of rain. 91 yesterday and 90s through Friday i presume will  start to show stress in the plants. I just wanted to say thank you to Jen for her weather updates, especially at this critical time of the year. I farmed here in the drought of 83, 88 and then last year and as I recall the markets do not see the damage being done in the country side by mother nature for about a week after we all know we have big problems. If this high stays put we best get on board the BULL train,

Re: Texas Anomaly

I just had a funny thought. In the Blues Brothers, the boys go into Ray Charles store to get instruments, and on of the guys was saying that there was no action left on the keyboard. Ray sits down, with his sunglasses on, swaying back and forth and the whole street braks out in song.

Well I just saw the whole CBOT, sitting at their keyboards, wearing Hobbies new 2.1 sunglasses (you know - the ones that make it look like its raining) and there they are, all swaying back and forth, happy as clams because its raining and they can take market down with justification. The mind is a terrible thing......

Re: Texas Anomaly

Hey Jenny,

Sorry to bother you but I'd like to know your opinion of wind direction across Iowa this sunday through the following saturday.

I'm thinking that if the TX high stays in place longer than some forecasts suggest it would make for a more westerly wind? What say you?

TIA, h

Re: Texas Anomaly

I'll check it out later tonight and try to give you an answer tomorrow. I know after next week it's definitely an east west flow. Jen
