The thing with hogs though, you get the live weight much over 300lbs and you better like cracklins cause it`s a lot of lard  🙂

Around here there`s been a surge in new hog barn construction, I thought $10 2x6s would slow `em down ...."aw, it didn`t effect us, we planned construction a year ago"   oh, ok.

Will slaughter a lot of 240wt hogs. 

They been more like 170 lately because of asf. 

The Americans are stupid pushing cattle to 1600, hogs to 300....its not as efficient as the packer spins.

The EQUIP money doesn`t put any foldable money in the hoghouse janitor`s pocket, it`s more of a appeasement to the poor neighbors that, "well, we`re doin` something!  What more you want?".

Why  do  they  sign  up  for  it ,  just  to  be  nice ,  making  the  sales  pitch  of  including  it ,  an  over-sight - ?

Doin` the "right thing" is a warm fuzzy, maybe win the Wergin Good Neighbor award.   Some barns are well managed, others the barn`s owners live in Chicago, the yahoo that throws the deads out on Tuesdays lives 10 miles away, the goober that gets the manure lives a mile away, the company that owns the hogs lives a state or 2 away.   But, how ya gonna keep `em on the farm?

It used to be 5 hog buying stations in a 10 mile radius and whatever buyer offered a buck more got the bulk of the hogs that day.  I`m sure buyers didn`t like that taking and making calls to round up a couple pots from a montage of 300 farmer/customers.   Now, they have contracts with integrators and they go plant direct ...efficiency.  

But about every case (the way it is now) Pa is 50 and the 20-something boy are looking for $400 land to rent and can`t find any.  So, to make themselves a "job" they sign on the dotted line, 3,000 acres won`t support 2 families, you know.
