Re: I prefer to ....

I prefer to think of myself as a realist, to see the thing for what it is, warts and all.  I'm going about my business as best I can, carrying on, planting my crop, even in the face of some pretty stiff odds but I'm under no illusions as to the risks involved.

Maybe that's the difference between myself and trump.  Trump has always ignored the obvious difficulties and risks, charged ahead anyhow.  The result, a failed airline,  multiple bankrupted casinos, failing at business after business but always managing to shift the losses on to someone else.  Only this time, it's the American people who are suffering the losses and those losses are sure piling up.

In fact, the losses are almost incalculable, tens of thousands dead, the economy in tatters, all because he thought he knew better.

Re: Great, now you're trivializing....

Great, now you're trivializing their very real pain & trauma. Thanks for being so thoughtful, understanding, and sympathetic.   I bet you won't joke about Iraq & Afghan war casualties like that, would you?

Re: Great, now you're trivializing....

The pain and trauma is being caused by watching hospitals allow patients to die so they get paid and not actually treating the illness you do realize they are getting big bucks for listing cause of death as covid and even more if they tube one for no reason I think its like 39000 bucks meanwhile beds are empty and hospitals are trying to stay in the black, looks like a lot of heartache in all those tick tock dances from the nurses in the ppe gear.

And yes to add insult to injury they have to pay a tax for there earnings for simply trying to help in the great pandemic

Does anyone find it ironic that the chi comms are buying grain at rock bottom prices since the wuhan virus scam started looks like the great grain robbery of 2020 is going on to me but the chi comm sympathizers are worried about you eating a steak at your risk.

Tricky Rick should do some basic math on the death rate instead of being a doom and gloomer because he don't like orange man

Re: Great, now you're trivializing....

The 'Rona Truthers are following the AGW denialist playbook- in fact a lot of the "authoritative" stuff is coming from the usual suspects. Twist numbers, find outlier "experts", try to get people to believe there are "two sides".

The 'Rona is probably about 10X more lethal than seasonal flu. It's arguably approximately true that for healthy young people the mortality rate is about equal to mortality for the general population from seasonal flu. Almost no healthy young people die of seasonal flu. Propaganda is just that easy!

Hey, its your funeral. Might be literal but I'm thinking more figuratively. A second wave or just a long, grinding plateau equals a depression. Farmers are probably uniquely positioned to be made whole by the government in the short term but I don't think you'll like the long term in particular.

BTW, depends on the operation but a restaurant running at 50% of normal isn't much better off than being closed and at 25% it is better off with the doors locked. Except for burning some gas and rubber to get there, not a lot of economic purpose served.

Also, these pages provide an excellent historical archive. Over the 3 months of the drama look at who has consistently been wrong or deliberately disseminated false information.

Re: Great, now you're trivializing....

As far as the oft cited 50Kish median annual mortality from seasonal flu goes.

It turned out to be a couple weeks late and there were unimaginable failures elsewhere already in play. Had the unprecedented moves to shut things down the week of Mar 10 not occurred, we could have easily rolled up the 10X number in half a season.

Think of all of the conference tournaments that weekend- hundreds of thousands congregating in petri dishes and going home to thousands of communities. That's just one example.

All of the comparative data is premature- as is the data itself. But it appears that Sweden's herd immunity strategy has not spared it the economic hit- in fact it very well may be worse than Norway or Finland that took the opposite tack.

And in terms of widespread social responsibility, the USA is not Sweden.

Re: Great, now you're trivializing....

It's a good chear but don't think the crowd is gonna buy it...... death death he's our man, if he can't beat trump nobody can!

Looks like time to draw an end to the latest political "get trump" charade.

Obviously the virus is a real danger especially if your terminal cancer..... corona is your label at the morgue. Smiley Happy

Seriously it is a bad deal--- but it is time for this to end.  It has been politicized by trump haters to the point of "ruining a good pandemic"  Time to move on and stop force feeding fear of death at every government office and university.   Every year 2.8 million americans die of natural causes.  When we find ourselves trying to harvest those numbers to win an election, we deserve to be among those numbers.
