Tid Bits
MARKET COMMENTARY August 08, 2014
By Raymond Jenkins
Well, for a little while this morning it appears we might end the week with a positive gain in corn futures. That was before the board decided to give back 7-8 cents today, which meant today’s close was just a few ticks under the Friday August 1 value.
FOCUS----needs to be on what it will take to have room to store your 2014 corn production. You want to avoid having to dump old crop corn into the market right at the height of the harvest glut, which means you need to keep moving old crop corn, since the value is 30-35 cents higher now than on November 1.
If you do not like the price, put this old crop corn on a basis contract and ride the futures, but do NOT give away the extra value this old crop corn has today.
Not much time before the August 12 crop report.

Re: Tid Bits
1/2 hr of sunshine since Tuesday, Hot and humid today and that is when we got the little sunshine this morning for a short time.
We are into the middle of Aug now, Saw a field of corn today 20 miles from here that was white silks.
Going to be in trouble shortly on the finish of this crop without a better % of sunshine, not just daylight. Sunshine.

Re: Tid Bits
Build it they will come... this years butter cow at the Iowa State fair. The cow is life size for those who don't know.
Yesterday was the first day of the fair, kind of got to be a tradition of the wife's to got the first day and listen to the storytellers in Pioneer Hall. She allows me to tag along.
Rated #1 among ALL state fairs. More ways and kinds of food than in Wal Mart seems most are on a stick.
some radom things along the way yesterday...
Side A
Side B
Texas is not the only state to do things in a big way.

Re: Tid Bits
Our fair starts on Sept. 5, I was hoping to attend this year. Nothing more than a day long sight seeing and walking venue, but like you Hobby I'm a little low on food served on a stick.
BTW, that butter scupture of the cow, isn't that cutting out the middle man? I bet the roasting ear vender wanted to set up shop right next door to it.

Re: Tid Bits
Ran into a good friend from the years I lead the Great WHO tractor ride. The two tractors in the background are his and are there on display every year. Something very unusual this year... jacket weather.
These few pictures don't do it justice.

Re: Tid Bits
At hobby's. pictures, when I saw the last
One, of the old farmer and his wife. I have
Always enjoyed that painting but for some
Reason when I saw it this time my brain
Said....."before viagra"
I know the hot dry weather, the huge wheat
crop, I think are starting to take their toll! !!
I have always wanted to go to the Iowa
State fair. I have seen video of it and
Sounds like something.
The food court sounds wonderful, but
I would need to take a couple extra shots
of insulin and a couple of extra stations,
And if that much walking take an extra breathing pill.
If the harvests had been good the last couple
of years, I wanted to buy a minihome and
Go to some of them. I shopped, and for
A smaller, plain unit, but new with bells
and a few whisked, like a generator and
Auto sat, was about $45 k
I'm told I better go now when I can, but
What if I live?

Re: Tid Bits
Nice Pics, never been to Iowa State Fair. We have been to the Clay County Fair in Spencer Iowa.
I was told thats the "real" Iowa State Fair, but hey thats coming from Northwest Iowa folks. Had a great
time. We will go again, not going to bother with the Twin Cities State Fair that our state has. Way to Metro.

Re: Tid Bits
Haven't looked at the beans for weeks till this forenoon. The rain has made them think they have a new lease on life and are putting on new growth and blooms.
Found this preditor out about 8 rows from the edge.
Lots of twins, I think it was too dry just a little too long.
