my guess is that if you use it to dig up beets it is a beet digger and if it is used for taters it's a potato digger, same for turnips etc. This one had more substantial tines than the two we saw in Iceland. 

 

Just found it interesting same basic design two different manufacturers. Two machines in Iceland (one still in use) one at the Iowa St Fair.

 

For the ones who missed out on that trip... The first one we saw was at the end of a growing potato patch, the other more complete one was at an agricultural museum.

No wonder it seemed full at the fair yesterday... 108,000 people. New one day attendance record.
