Time For A Grain Reserve?

Ok lets start the reserve by giving every one in queens without electricity 100 bu of wheat.

The Pharoah ahd a dream which Joseph interpreted.  The story is likely allegorical, as the Egyptians were well aware of the propensity of the Nile to have it's up and down years.  🙂

If you readthe whole story you see that during the good years Pharoah TOOK the grain that was produced, and then during the bad years SOLD it back to the people.  They ranout of money and ended up selling their livestock, land and even themselves for food, so the government owned all the land and all the people were slaves of the government.

Actually, the plan came from Joseph and the Pharaoh put him in charge of it. No, no weasling. Buy it or reject it. The issue is the wisdom of reserves.

So the lesson here is DO NOT let the goverment be in charge of the reserves... NOT good for the common average man, woman, or child.

Seriously, there are many ways to skin the rabbit. The issue is the need for reserves in a volatile supply world. 

I'm reminded of the calls for letting the private sector take care of people and emergencies. Nobody is stopping them from doing that now. But some events are too widespread, uncoordinated and unprofessional to be efficient. Like Sandy and Katrina. And famine.

I do think that ina a highly polarized, ideological and suspicious world that operations of something like grain reserves need to be fact based and objective and open to avoid the politicization that many promote.

I believe the reserve should be up to each producer to provide his own reserve. If you put more control on the Government, we are opening the door for them to control price more than they already do. Let the Feds. stick to their trend line reports and put the producers in charge of the reserve.
