Trade war negotiations, progress or more of the same?
It's being reported in Bloomberg and elsewhere that US & Chinese negotiators have agreed to a simultaneous phased pull back of all tariffs along with China agreeing to resume purchases of soybeans and some other minor concessions. China is insisting that US tariffs on $360 worth of goods be removed.
Supposedly the market has responded favorably but rightly remains skeptical.

Wow what a great deal Trump has delivered.
18 months of negotiations and we end up part way back to where we started.
China used to buy 1/3 of our soybeans.
Dumb Donald put tariffs on and the Chinese quite buying US beans.
If Dumb Donald takes off all the tariffs China says they may start buying US beans again.
Great job MFP payments 2020

Always remember that the Chinese are way smarter than our guys.
If you notice what they're doing- publicly moving the goalposts because they know that Trump is desperate to get a deal done and keep the market up. As long as they're playing along and issuing positive statements so that the market goes up he isn't going to call them on it.
A form of quid pro quo, really. Not in the nation's interests.

Keep in mind the 400+ types of imported ''' product items ''' that are exempt, coming from China back in September, as we wouldn't want to hardship those retail giants - - -
Product items, now there is an interesting disclosure - Christmas lights included - - -

Re: Really interesting article from Reuters, ....
A really interesting article from Reuters, not sure but it looks like just when the negotiators get close to a deal, the political types in the White House throw hissy-fits and try to kill any deal.
Either that or it's some kind of pump & dump operation.

Re: Really interesting article from Reuters, ....
You mean a trade deal or an election process?
A trade deal isn't going to make much difference it we don't have a 2020 election.
And that will be the next step.

"they say" Xi is dragging his feet, waiting until "after the election" to make a deal...what does that tell you who they think will win and what they expect to get? Let`s stick it to `em and prove `em wrong. Trump 2020!

Re: Really interesting article from Reuters, ....
BA, That is probably the only option. Since neither party can seem to put forth a candidate who can speak with any sense of economic reality. I have yet to hear a speaker say anything other than promise blue sky from a bankrupt congress.
I do not want to expand "this" government. It is out of control and rewrites law by edict and regulation modification and circumvents itself with nonsense legal opinions.
I didn't need to see the glyphosate verdict to know we have all this style of judiciary we need. We don't need more uneducated on the benches. Or more uneducated in congress. Or more Religous promotion from Congress. Or more Hate speach delivered by those who authored the law in congress. False unverifiable testimony never gets punished but almost guarantees a book deal or payment under the table in some other form. Trump has it made.... He can throw a rock in any direction in DC and hit an elected or bureaucrat with skeletons burried in the political takeover of the voter.
Trump can entertain and and poke a stick, and make us uneasy. And maybe a President should. But he won't and can't out corrupt his opposition. It is the reason he won. His promise to the voter. The opposition's history of corruption is like the skyline at Coors field. Those mountains of "fast and loose" with the law for decades are always in the background ... as large as the national debt congress creates.. Nearly every financial calamity of the last 60 years has its roots in congress and our two political parties. Housing bubble for example was fully a creation of congressional law beating traditional lending rules down. Extremes of rich and poor which at least one candidate is still using rich money to beat on rich boogy men....... have been created by the continuing government hammer on interest rates. Which kills working class income savings, jobs and small local banking. How many years has congress given internet commerce a pass on taxes........ killing midwest small business the most.
I saw a washer and dryer sitting on a front porch yesterday --- delivered by ups. While a local who would have installed and warantied the same brand is going out of business. He paid property taxes and hired labor.... and would service their needs for years.
That delivery from an amazon order provides no service, no participation in the local economy, no contribution to the local utilities needed to run those appliances. And very little tax benefit even at the federal level. Yet profits the liberal voters who own its stock and hate trump and his voters and their country or at least their segment of it.
Trump can walk on the edge of inapropriate speech and we can wonder why....... but none of us have to guess how he attracts the crowds he does. Or the voters he does. We just look at his competition. He has a deal with his voters. It will be a tough bond to break. He won't lie to them or steal from them or tell them how stupid they are. While congress searches in a basement for a little evidence of "interpreted" authority... The public sees the view of the Rockies from Coors field.
Xi is negotiating........ Trump is negotiating...... the american press and political parties would hand them the keys for a "piece of the action". I think they both know that. I'd rather trust trump than a congressman or a editor or a prince who'd rather be in the caribbean.
