Re: USA may import corn

Yes, corn is a global commodity.  Shortage of corn in the US is not an automatic recipe for higher prices.  It'll be all about the basis.

Of course, we need to look at regional needs.  If the East Coast is short of corn imports may be a solution, but if corn is short in North Dakota, that's a pretty long barge haul for Brazilian corn.  (Plus, who knows if the locks and dams will be up,anyway?)

spoken like a true trader................

why not if a shortage of a commodity in the united states, deem to be an issue to raise prices ?

how many times do we see wire storys about Europe and south America, and it moves the market.........why not here.

Re: USA may import corn

Didn't Cargill bring in or threaten to bring in a couple of ships of soybeans to the east coast in the 1990s or 2000s?  Anyone have a reference on that?

Re: USA may import corn

The subject was corn and they did bring in corn last year and may probably this year....

The freight from brazil or arg. is probably less than from The dakota's to north carolina.  And it is China's pigs anyway ...... so is that actually an import?

There will be nothing available from the corn deficit southern corn belt ---- wasn't last year. Won't be this year....

And none of that has anything to do with price... price is set by which propaganda you believe.

Nope.  The price is set by the propaganda the traders believe.
