Re: USDA Apr. 10 --Your Opinion - start in field?

Thanks Buckley. been watching soil temps in your neck-o-the woods. looks like upper 30's-50 degree low to high in 1 day.

do you generally need it to remain above 50 all day to plant?

Cx, when the seed goes in yes the ideal situation would be soil temps to stay above 50 degrees to promote root growth. IMO 15 day forecast is more important to watch.

Re: USDA Apr. 10 --Your Opinion - start in field?

Started Moldboard Plowing hill ground yesterday.  Marginal ground which was formerly pasture. Seems that we have plenty of moisture heading into planting in about 40 days. Ponds are now full tile lines are running a small trickle   According to the Palmer Drouth Index, we are among those lucky parts of Iowa classified as having adequate moisture.  Where as other parts, Mostly North of I-80 still have drouth problems.  Man . . . this might be one of the two years we have a crop in five years. lol.  Adios Amigos.  John
