The problem with your outrage is pretty simple. They have dumped thousands of tons of N in the rivers and NO2 into the atmosphere every year for decades. No other industry gets away with massive scale discharges, why is ag exempt? Or, more to the point, why is "Rich" ag exempt. 

Interestingly, there are hundreds of ways to reduce or eliminate their N and C discharges but no one wants to adopt them because they have never had to in the past, just let it seep into the river, far easier that way. The data is just undeniable, they are dumping massive amounts of pollution into the rivers and atmosphere. Maybe instead of burning fuel driving down the roads they could come up with a farmer plan to clean up? 

Honestly, they are in an indefensible position. Not much different than Iowa and the Des Monies water system. Just keep dumping it in the river as long as you can get away with it. Luckily for us, there is something called the "Senate" filled with lots of folks who need the ag vote. 🙂

That would be unwise for larger purpose of flood control- particualrly with rapidly rising sea levels.

But there are plans for some wetland "restoration".

BTW, as far as the politics protecting “agriculture’s” most egregious practices go.

If free and fair elections continue the political landscape looks entirely and permanently different after 2028, although the current game is to try to eliminate elections to render that moot.

But should the trend happen to somehow proceed despite it all, the emerging consensus will owe less than nothing to “agriculture”.

But as Galbreath sagely noted, “people of privilege will risk their own destruction before voluntarily surrendering any of their advantage”.

Funny, I agreed with everything SD said in this thread UNTIL he throws out the throw away line "ending elections"? Since no one on the red side is trying to eliminate elections, just look at the turnout of blacks under the demonized "Jim Crow 2.0" election rules in Georgia, what is he talking about?  It will work the same way for the emerging latino power base over time. They might not speak english but their kids in general are like all 1st gen americans, hard working, faith filled, and smart. (ie a voting block that will gain more and more impact)

He may be right, by 2028 the largest minority group will be latino/hispanic, and by 2028 it is pretty likely that they will be voting 65% with the red side, it certainly will change the maps in some states, FL, NM, NV, CO, etc.  The blue states will of course only get bluer in the face until they can't pay for basic services and further decay into 2nd world status again. (Visit some rural CA counties where the roads are returning to weeds and trees)
