if we get the rain they are predicting for Sun-Mon, it will be the final nail in the coffin on this farm for wheat. cant mud in wheat the last week of OCT and expect 80-100 bushel crop, and thats the only way to make it work.
its also fast approaching messing with corn acres. have two fields that always go COC because they raise way better corn than beans. they are also creek bottoms that have water standing between the unharvested corn rows. likely have to take it on frozen ground unless it stops raining for a month. which means no fall tillage. which means decisions decisions decisions. thus think about COC in IL and IA et al. Also, guessing the rut factor just went up too which will add stress to ground prep for corn next year.
wet wet wet falls are usually never good, because they usually do two things. make the next spring a bitch and things usually go in less than ideal, and they seem to be a precursor to a dry stretch.
they just reported we are already the 8th wetest OCT in history locally anyway. and its only the 10th of the month.
we hit november sopping wet and stay that way thru xmas, well it pretty much throws a wrench in this record crop and next years acres.
