Weather?

Will the current weather system moving from the plains states into the Midwest have any affect on the market creating false movement due to the report coming out?  Seems like it might create significant harvest delays or is the crop already accounted for?

I've been blessed with at least 1" rain on every farm since last evening and we're still receiving good general rain.  The milo was approximately 1 week away from harvestable moisture so this is picture perfect.  Wheat planted within the past 3 weeks will green up and give us good fall growth, something we haven't had for about 3 years now.  Best thing of all, I was able to get all my fall residual control chemicals applied yesterday to next years milo ground, shaping up to be a decent day if the report isn't a spoiler.

Re: Weather?

This stuff I affecting stuff. I haven't cut a single bean yet because of it. I'm almost willing to guess abandoned bean acres will show up further north if this continues but it's early

Re: Weather?

if we get the rain they are predicting for Sun-Mon, it will be the final nail in the coffin on this farm for wheat.  cant mud in wheat the last week of OCT and expect 80-100 bushel crop, and thats the only way to make it work.

its also fast approaching messing with corn acres.  have two fields that always go COC because they raise way better corn than beans.  they are also creek bottoms that have water standing between the unharvested corn rows.  likely have to take it on frozen ground unless it stops raining for a month.  which means no fall tillage.  which means decisions decisions decisions.  thus think about COC in IL and IA et al.  Also, guessing the rut factor just went up too which will add stress to ground prep for corn next year.

wet wet wet falls are usually never good, because they usually do two things.  make the next spring a bitch and things usually go in less than ideal, and they seem to be a precursor to a dry stretch.

they just reported we are already the 8th wetest OCT in history locally anyway.  and its only the 10th of the month.

we hit november sopping wet and stay that way thru xmas, well it pretty much throws a wrench in this record crop and next years acres.

Re: Weather?

Just shut down the computer till Jan 1,   you weren't going to sell the corn anyway,  Jan down your way usually gives you a foot of frost to work with, the corn will be dry by then.  Kind of a win win deal. Easier on the machinery,  No ruts, or compaction, no big drying bill. Guess I need to add another 2 win' s.

Would be just like hitting three cherries on the slot machine. Talk about being rich... I'll never be able to keep up with you.

Re: Weather?

From what I hear the drought in SA will be coming to an end soon.  Reason for much of the decline.

Re: Weather?

I know that when we're eager to go and weathered in we get frustrated, but it's a little early yet.  We have a good capability to surge in planting and even harvesting.  Yes, some things get deferred and some plans get shunted aside, but the really important things get done.  We find a way.

I'm not pooh poohing the aggravation.  It might be a few weeks early to get really steamed, though.  We'll make it work.
