Well, finally, the new crop bean/corn ratio is ....

Well, finally, the new crop bean/corn ratio is coming up to where it needs to be to buy some bean acres.  I was beginning to think I was going to have to plant the whole farm to corn.  A week ago, the new crop bean to corn ratio was down to 2.1  now it's 2.26 and coming up.  When it gets up to 2.5-2.6 may we can think about selling some beans.  Currently that means new crop beans need to be about $16.50 in my estimation.

Re: Well, finally, the new crop bean/corn ratio is ....

I know the corn/bean price ratio can be a tool to see how in line prices are.  But, are there pockets of farmers (who aren`t already done planting)  look at the ratio and actually trade seedcorn for bean seed?   It`s seems strange to most north Iowa farmers, because for the most part in October if we`re combining a beanfield, we can say with certainty that next year it`ll be a cornfield regardless of price and price ratios.  If I was rich, I`d raise only corn, the beans would have to be $40/bushel or I wouldn`t mess with the damned things.   This is corn country!  🙂

Just thought of this, if corn and beans were pets, corn would be Dogs and soybeans would be cats.  I think only a "cat person" can enjoy raising soybeans.   🙂

I like Dogs and "cat" but when you get 40 of the damned things.....  and it seems like they don`t get distemper anymore.

Re: Well, finally, the new crop bean/corn ratio is ....

When we were just out of school a neighbor decided to sell his place to my dad.

Later I asked him what he liked about his first paid for home.......

"The place had a history of distemper.  Wipes out the cats every so often."

His favorite part.
