Wheat condition

They told me it was going to rain tonight (nothing yet), so I went out and looked over all the wheat along with the area neighbors.

Ive been going by it but never crawled out to look hard.  It hasn't been too good,

getting out and looking was not good.  I would estimate at least 50% winter kill.  also the wheat is short and thin.

the old saying by easter the wheat is  big enough for a rabbit to hid in it, going to have to be some mightly little

bunnies.

The ground is like powder.  dig down 6 inches and some moisture, and you walk around out there and you kind

of sink in powder, and this is no till.

Sorry, not smart enought to get the cphone camera to talk to computer if so would have had some pictures.

trying to figure out what to plant, soybeans are so high priced, but easy to do, milo is cheaper but then get hit in

the head with herb cost.......been thinking maybe planting a bunch of foxtail millet, the fellows like it around

here, and would be a fairly cheap thing to plant, about $28 a 50# and plant 18# to the acre

Re: Wheat condition

Despite your evidence of a least some wheat acres suffering, the market is reacting negatively today.  It's probably the uptick in TX and OK conditions that is driving it.  But at the same time the news out of other wheat producing areas of the world is not all that encouraging for production.  Western Europe, Russia, Ukraine all have some potential problems showing up.  Canadian Government just suggested 2015/16 ending stocks will be lowest in years.

Just my opinion, but I think there will be a tug of war in wheat for a few weeks yet.  Rain showers, or the lack of them in Oklahoma and Kansas won't be the only market moving news in 2015.

Re: Wheat condition

Talked to crop insurance agent. They
confirmed wheat drought/winterkill

He has been getting claims

The company is already setting rules.

We can not submit a claim for 2 to 3 weeks

They will accept claims south of I 70 first.

Also alot of talk on the. 130% rule

The traders (computers) do not understand
The fundamentals.,.

They do not understand the whole picture
And they do not want to

Re: Wheat condition

You are very naive if you think that the guys that trade for a living, that only send their kids to college if they make money trading don't know more about fundementals than a farmer.

They dont know about as much about agronomy as you do.   They know more about S&Ds and money flow than you do.
