Who's getting rain?

Looks like the system that made its way through Nebraska last night is up in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota right now. So, who got some rain last night? Was it enough to make any difference?

the same people that have gotten rain for the past 6 weeks..........shocker..........

end users should be taking this chance to look at covering some needs..........much like 2010, the real story may not unfold till August..........

How does an enduser go about covering needs?  Once bitten twice shy is how I see things unfolding.  Most corn producers will not sell them any down here.  They will have to go to the board to cover needs.  Look how that's worked for them this year.  Every analyst and his dog was telling endusers in December to cover their needs when the futures dipped to 6 bucks.  Look where the futures are today, and look where the basis is today.  Their 6 buck coverage they thought would be 5.80-6.00 cash corn is all of a sudden turning into 6.50-7.00 cash coverage.  With this type of coverage, it's pretty difficult to ever feel comfortable locking in any kind of margin on their products.

So far only sprinkles, not enough to make it muddy.    Radar overhead shows we are suppose to be getting .3 of an inch....not yet enough to measure in the rain gauge.

Its been hit and miss here in central MN.  Some places got an inch or more sunday night and some got nothing.  Today only about a tenth and the sun is starting to peek through now.  We have enough moisture now, and there are no soft wet spots for spraying so if we turn hot and dry the corn won't be long and we will also be short of moisture.  Went out to my nieces graduation in Fort Wayne Indiana and drove all accross the state from Valpraiso to Fort Wayne and saw pineapple corn the whole way.  It is a lot drier than I thought.  Came home and put another padlock on the corn bin so it will take me longer to open it and sell the little I have left.

Rusureofit Im an hour north of Ft. Wayne, and things are soo dry its making many nervous we may never have a crop this year. Without gulf moisture, the Eastern cornbelt gets beaten by drought. Storms coming from the Northwest usually die off before they get here. My Grandfather who has farmed in this area since the early 1970's says he has never seen it soo dry so early. Even though it was poor there was still a crop to harvest in 1988.

South central wi. last rain on Sun. was very spotty some places 3/4, only .1 here. It got cloudy just be for lunch but nothing for rain on radar. It seems to be evaporating before it gets to the ground. We had a wetter fall than some so we had some subsoil mosture going in but it is going fast now. A lot of the late planting got put in into dry gound. I planted beans in dust but if my bins are going to bust something better change quick. We are probably about where we would normaly be in august as far as soil mosture. If it was august our corn would be filling ears and we could limp to maturity but we are along way from that. Corn is from ankle to mid thigh in height and showing stress on the sand and the clay knolls. This weekend will curl a lot of leaves.
