Wind ------ Marriah

SW wind is blowing the Arizona heat back to us----  1/2 inch of rain is gone with three hours of 40 mph dry wind.

Wheat harvest is sudden and running from Spearman Texas to North of Garden City ....... that two week process just took a couple of hot days.

SW ks yield reports.... irrigated with limited water 60 bpa to 70.

dry land continuous crop 9 bushel per acre to 15.

dry land summerfallow( crop every other year) is 30-35

Silage and hay harvest of the wheat look alike is pretty well done.  Rye is rearing its ugly head in a region where we spent two decades wiping it out in the 50's and 60's...

---------------------------------------------------

There is a great wheat drive on Highway 23 north of the Arkansas river from Cimarron Ks to Kalvesta, Dighton,  to the Gove area.  then north to Hoxie and somewhere sw of Dresden 23 stops and refuses to go into Nebraska, dumps you over to 83 where you can hide among the trucks and sneak into the cornhusker state...... It has something to do with originating in Oklahoma( that is my guess.) Western Kansas at its best without

While 83 highway is the fast track N/S across western Kansas, move one slide step east and come up highway 23(or down) which terminates on the south end at Beaver, Okla Stockyard.

I guarantee somewhere on that lonely drive you can catch a glimpse of a wagon train crossing west of Horse Thief Canyon and Reservoir.  Avoiding Marshall Dillon by 20+ miles.  There will be a fair amount of 60+ bushel dry land wheat harvested on that drive this week or next.  And all 5 small former towns with a gas stop on that 240 mile drive would love to sell you a snack.

Re: Wind ------ Marriah

And on your drive between Beaver  Oklahoma and Meade Ks, stop in and say hello. Or at least honk and wave as you go by   You will go by some of my fields, but the wheat is cut, sold, and the $$$ are already spent, or at least allocated

Re: Wind ------ Marriah

WE moved cattle through the artesian valley from the englewood area annually through my childhood years.... coming out to our wheat north of hooker--west of Liberal.

That is my favorite area --- On 23, my favorite community is Meade.  Just a beautiful town.  Enjoyed picnics at the lake and watching the cup being blown out of my sisters hand was the cold water blast. (by the artesian water pipe.... 2 inches unrestricted was powerful.). a classmate coached football at Meade.  Every sports fan in sw ks admired the Iroquois league. Those ranches and farms turned out athletes year after year.  How many high school conferences have the ability to win state championships in three different classes?  Over the years it seemed like they got close every other year.  Considering Cimarron and Dighton on the hwy 23 drive there just hasn't been much weak competition anywhere in cattle country over the decades.

I'll wave every time .....
