Re: Winter storm on the way

The storm y'all are talking about was The Perfect Storm. You know, sank that boat and had a book and a movie about it. It's the only time I've ever seen snow in November. We still had some cotton in the field and it took 500 lbs off of a 1300lbs crop. The bad thing was we had plenty of time to be done but the cotton wouldn't get ready. We had picked everything else and even scrapped everything else. ( Thats picking it the second time)

Re: Winter storm on the way

Jenny Jenny Jenny....... No I only like to discredit you when you are wrong. Like your weather predictions and your prediction the crop wasn't out there..... It's out there, even over by Kenyon.  we did NOT get as much snow as you did even in CF. We got more freezing rain and rain. Only had about 6-8" of snow. As for the tillage, well the ground wasn't froze before the storm and the snow helped to insulate it. Plus we moldboard plowed everything.... in furrow. With some trash on top and one wheel in the furrow you can go through a lot..... even with a 2 wheel drive tractor.

But for your information here are the temps at the Rochester airport from weather underground. I think they backup what I said. And from my personal notes and recordings over time they are typically a degree or two different than me. We as MSP can be as much as 10 degrees difference, as I'm sure you know.

11/22            39                              25

11/23            24                              17                                        9

11/24            17                                7                                        9

So maybe it wasn't ten days, it was more like 13, I mean it  was 15 years ago now..... None the less the snow disappeared. And if you look at the temps, tillage could certainly be done. But I'm sure you will tell me I don't know what I'm talking about and don't understand weather, or tillage or crops......

Re: Winter storm on the way

Huh. We had 130 acres of corn to pick when the storm hit, and almost all the plowing. We got all the corn picked no problem and I think I finished plowing on thanksgiving day. If I remember right the snow was gone after about 10 days

Well -  see then we're both right.  Your insinuation from your post was that you also got the 30 inches of snow.  I wasn't there.  I was here in Cannon Falls.  And here, like I said, the snow did not leave and it (tillage, like others have said) was over.  Had you gotten the brunt of the snowstorm, yours would've been over too.  But your Huh.  Says to me, I don't believe you.  You didn't tell the rest of the story on your end, leaving it open for conjecture, like you like to do.

But that's fine.  I'm glad you were able to get things done.  Many others were not.

Re: Winter storm on the way

Well good - that was a benefit for you from the storm for sure.  I wonder how many babies were born early August of the next year...it was probably a mini baby boom!

Re: Winter storm on the way

The affects from the storm varied greatly in relatively short distance. Here in freeborn county we had mostly ice which destroyed the power system. Repairs weren't completely done for quite some time. Just to the north and west it was all snow with areas seeing 28". Still corn out in the field and in the dryers around here with no power made for some worried people. Here is a noaa recap of the storm
