Wuhan Virus

Hope they got as good a control on things in reality as they are currently pretending, not just for the market's sake, but for everyone's sake.

I watched 3 different videos today of 3 different Chinese folks over in Wuhan face-planting onto the cement as they passed out from the effects of the virus.

And since pretty much all the face masks on the market (whatever is still available) say "hecho in China"...

When the present supplies of face masks run out here in the U.S, where are new supplies coming from?

....just sayin'

Re: Wuhan Virus

I`ll just say this, disease containment is one of a long list of why nations need to have secure borders.  All these diseases come from China, the flu every year starts in China.  I don`t know if this current situation is the "big one" but one day there`s going to be a mutated virus that can`t be cured and no vaccine and the only remedy for the human race will be isolation.   "Global warming" seems pretty insignificant, half the world`s population disappears and the "carbon footprint" gets cut in half.   Mother Nature bats last.

Re: Wuhan Virus

I won't lend any cred to that number but don't think its unreasonable to assume it is worse than reported, given the extent of the response.

When a virus gets into a population it can mutate in different ways- to more or less lethal.

A virus that kills the host is a biological failure so the default is toward less lethal. When the opposite occurs it is because it is so virulent that it kills a lot before mutating down.

Re: Wuhan Virus

SD:

I looked at the numbers...

Middle of this week, China officially claimed they had around 400 cases and 17 dead -> 4.25% casualty rate

Two days later, around 800 cases and 25 dead -> 3.1% casualty rate .... ???

How is it possible cases doubled in a mere 2 days but the casualty rate dropped by 1%?

For 25 deaths and 800 infections out of a population of 1.4 billion, would Beijing:

*  Cancel all Lunar New Year festivities (for many Chinese, the only time they see their families is during LNY)

*  Lock down multiple large cities  and do it with TANKS and military

*  Order a whole province with 60 million people to "stay inside"

Like you said, viruses can go different ways.  But I look at Ebola -- first brought to awareness in 1976 and still almost as lethal a killer 40+ years later.  It's a slow learner except it is getting more easily transmissible.

All viruses' survival hinge on relationship/availability of host and transmissibilityWuhan Virus (WV) is said to be as transmissible as it gets but it's not a 100% mortality virus like Ebola was when it first appeared (which is why Ebola kept flaming out in the human population), so WV has the ability to kill more people than Ebola as WV strives to infect 8 billion people.  Plus they still don't know which animal was the reservoir for WV.

BUT the market they said WV originated in is a mere 10-ish miles from a Level 4 biohazard facility, which raised eyebrows when China first built it a few years ago because China basically had no experience in those matters.

Anyway, WATCH the ports.  If they close port-containing cities, the repercussions will rock the world.

Re: Wuhan Virus

22 states are said to be investigating potential WV cases....

"SENATOR SAYS CDC ABOUT TO CONFIRM 3RD U.S. CASE OF CORONAVIRUS

That Senator has been revealed to be none other than Connecticut's Dick Blumenthal, a lawmaker with such a reputation for vanity, that it's hardly a surprise that he would murder stocks for his own political gain.

Following the briefing from health officials, Bloomy said the US needs "better relations with the Chinese" to help deal with the epidemic, a indirect slight at Trump.

And dozens more cases are still being investigated.

And just like that, stocks go "whoosh"."

SD:

I do understand that people's political opinions get enmeshed in their reporting nowadays, but I ignore the messenger.

But how do I say this ...

I am torn between not giving 2 sh.ts and having a soft spot for survival of everyone's kids and grandkids.  So that's the only reason I even bring up WV and its real potential.
