Re: another depression

It was the other way around. When the market crashed in 1929, it rallied into the spring of 1930. It almost made all the losses back . Then because it was dry in the spring of 1930 farmers stopped buying as the drought took hold. (at that time a plurality of people were in agriculture) From the spring of 1930, the stock market began a slide which ended in the summer of 1932.

Re: another depression

What depression?  We are spoiled rotten.  Most young couples have way more starting out than us oldies did in the 70's.

Just read that 37% of Americans are overweight.  No money shortage there for food.

For me, these are still great times.   I know my old fashion marketing is made fun of.  But having the bills paid and not needing this years crop to do took me a long time to get to.  And it is a place that works for me and leaves the stress out.  I will probably hold the rest of my 2011 crop too long, and miss the highs again.  That will be OK.

In times like this, a lot of times every sale is better than the last one.  That is a good marketing problem to have.

Re: another depression

foodstuffs were a HIGh % of GNP in the 30s,, very high % of what we produced and consimed.

today, far smaller.

alo the #s. 0.5 of the popultion farms? s   vs 2 in 1970 and a guess

60% in the 30s.

but, yes a depresion could arrive, odds 1/3.
