Re: condition report

Day before yesterday they got in 44,000 bu. 35,000 was straight out of the field, los of bushels still to be harvested. Still a surprisingly large amount of bean acres still to be harvested, one bto in my area has 2,000 acres to go.

It is amazing how several 24 row planters can out do three or four 12 row combines caught in muddy fall conditions. Economy of scale?

Don't forget about the grain in the bin..

I had 2 out of five bins of "dry" corn go south on me,

Smelled just like that silage pile at the coop, got help in trucking and grain vac'd it out,  caught it just in time, no damage discount, and the grain vac removed the odor and surface mold.

One bin was bad in the top half the other was on the bottom third. One had even been cored.

Moral of the story is check your bins...

Even though the price is less than we've got accustomed to, take care of it. Looks like I'll have to farm another year.

Re: condition report

At what humdity level do you think it is OK to run the fans?

About the only time our humidity has been low enough is when temp drops

to the teens and things seem to freeze dry.

Re: condition report

Your question hits on the whole problem here this fall/winter

Since before thanksgiving even on the very rare sunny days we have had our humitity has never been under 70%

It takes 50% to air dry to 15% grain moisture.

The corn came out wetter than it went in or at the very best the same.

We are in to out third day in a row of one mile or less visibility and drizzle and or fog.

I'm looking forward to the coming attic blast in a few days to chill the grain .

Re: condition report

I got no idea about how other things like the report and SA weather going forward turn out.

But the condition of the corn does raise my concern levels a bit about a potential selling climax late winter should price, Argentina and condition all come together in an unfortunate way.
