feedyard talk 6/11. ............ what happened????
not sure where you go for updates on futures but for me it is INO. For a while today Friday the 11th the lead month on corn was Dec 21 which ended the day at -6 while cash corn was up 6 for the day. Irregardless of the terms used in another comment that is not falling. It is traders not wanting to bet on a weekend market.
What did fall was the months of July and September, right off the board for most of the day. Now approaching 5:30pm they have reappeared like a couple of Juniors skipping school to try to learn something.
Locally the engines are roaring to life as the corn this week went from yellow to dark green and then wilted in the not so hot weather. Results of three weeks without sunshine on small corn not rooted enough for the warm weather it should get.(and plenty of wind today)--a little sand blasting is icing on a day like this one.
For the rest of the summer, whenever it starts, Fridays are not going to be ego builders for producers..... just the nature of the beast. Weather watching is day to day stuff. Don't let that deter you from enjoying the best markets we have ever seen..... As I remember it 2012 was about a 30 day market before the continuous string of record projections began..... and that is what brings us to this lack of supply. that is the way it goes suddenly the credit card won't work anymore.
We will have to depend on Hobby to let us know what the cash bids are for corn..... won't get it anywhere else.
Best futures note for today...... Take a quick look at the meat markets....... wow a small 6 cent drop in new crop corn and feeder cattle add $2.78 ......... that is demand calling.
Have a great weekend ---- enjoy growing something, green or golden, 4 legs or two, feathers or a Mac fries T-shirt.(or socks)

Time to send them cows back to the Midwest where the water is? How much water do a few thousand dairy cows drink?

Re: feedyard talk 6/11. ............ what happened????
It wanders to a new subject but the "dairy" word sticks--and my mind a bit. Arizona has a list of issues as well as being inhabited by a large share of midwestern farmers in retirement. And dairy is somewhere in there.
When I was 10 my uncle was a superintendent of schools in the Bay Area of California and was involved in a dairy cow ownership program at a mega dairy in the valley(San Joaquin). 1960's and the big tax breaks mega financing schemes were well under way. Naturally the teachers investments went belly up and the cows moved to a new location and new financing. Move forward 50+years of living with the congressional bribery dairy world from California to west Texas to northwest Texas to western Kansas ----- They move on and on chasing limited water... Always paying top dollar for land (land with water rights and decreasing supply, because that is what is for sale.)
Are they the vultures of Agriculture? Why do they always need to move in from somewhere else?
Is this another place where DC supports a mega business over small dairies?
