Re: feedyard talk 6/24. ..........Is this fixable???
Fertilizer is absolutely an oligopolistic cartel.
Happened almost instantaneously after private’s pried the last of the major fertilizer assets away from Co-ops.
Although actual Co-ops not generally remembered fondly by the farming remnant.
“What do you mean, one farm one vote”

With the exception of a few very good local outfits, Co-ops now mostly just an excuse for the Co-Bank wing of Farm Credit to continue to exist.

Regardless of the fool scammer that has joined into this discussion ----- I really would like to know where you think this subject should go?
Is it a regulation/activist/usda problem as I think or just natural evolution?
Where would you like to see it go....? Off shore and come back as Organic? which is where sd would push it.......

Re: feedyard talk 6/24. ..........Is this fixable???
Well, what do we all agree on? Let`s start with that. Beef packers are making $800/hd too much and we need to "do leg work to get our legislature to change that". Let`s quantify that, about $60/cwt live cattle or about $1/lb for beef ($8 hamburger goes to $7 whoopty-doo)
So, you do "legwork" and rile up "urban politicians" against the packers, so who gets the $800? The choices are 1. the producer? (who i think most of you are figuring will get it) 2. The consumer? (that`s the only way you`ll get urban lawmakers to side with you) 3. The packer? (they`ll always get their "$800") even if it means taking $1600 to get it. 4. The retail grocery store? If the packer charges too much they won`t buy it and will as always charge what the market will bear.
I`m not saying "do nothing" but this has been going on for decades, the 50-100hd feeder is done and now the ante is 2,000/hd plus to walk in the high stakes room. The guy in the Stetson isn`t portrayed as a victim, but rather "Cliven Bundy" racist, sexist, homophobe, greedy and responsible for global warming...."if he goes broke, good riddance!" As much as the Left hates the packing industry, they probably hate the individuals with a gunrack in their pickup more.
How do you convince AOC, Pelosi, Biden, Tina Smith, Durbin, Chuck Schumer and the idiots that voted for them to do a solid for the farmer? That`s right, I don`t know either. At least farm state GOP politicians have the right ideas, just not in the national majority.

How does wording like '' oligopoly '' suddenly appear , to perform an alligator tear parade, from a politician catching the dickens from Cattle Folks that belong to a outfit like R- Calf - - -

Re: feedyard talk 6/24. ..........Is this fixable???
Hey K-289. nothing is 'cheap", the cheap workers at the packing plants are subsidized by the taxpayers. Harris goes to El Paso at nicest part of the border for a photo op..."all`s well on the southern front!".
I don`t worry about marketing, it seems to work itself out. The smartest marketers eventually get humbled, might as well, do the best you can and always be bullish. But there ain`t a horse that`s never been rode or a cowboy that`s never been throwed.
Ethanol plant at Winnebago Minnesota is opening up again, so good news!
