Did you mean:

food riots this year?

http://motherboard.vice.com/2012/9/10/we-are-now-one-year-and-counting-from-global-riots-complex-sys...

Seems likely although some of the author's context about the paper will probably leave you flat.

Here's the deal, whether it is fair in regards to the way we thought the world works.  Members of the species homo sapiens get born somewhere in the world and no matter how mean their circumstances their ingenuity and will of self preservation permits some to survive for a while. And reproduce.

And as the article notes, there is nothing more reliable than the fact that they will get nasty when starvation even comes near and will kill other homo sapiens who they may, even fleetingly, view as in the way of their quest to feed themselves and their families.

Well......   With those facts in place, this is how I'd play it if I was a human master of this universe.  First I'd put policies in place that created an artificial food shortage (US ethanol, commodity financialization) and while I was waiting for the inevitable to occur in food deficit parts of the world I'd be getting the people who I want in place ready to go. Then when the tinder was right I'd start using social media to light the spark and then in other ways I'd nudge the "revolution" in the direction that suited me.

Perhaps most of that game has already been played out in the strategically vital middle east- only a bit of Syria and Iran left to go on the "list of 7 countries" that were purported to be circulated before the Iraq invasion.

But if you follow the thought experiment further the other prize is China, which can't possibly achieve its social and geopolitical goals without an abundant suppy of food for import.  That would be a longer game than the ME but worth keeping in mind.

If so, the good news is that the grain price boom may continue longer than other historical events. The bad news is thst it is because it has been an instrument of existential evil, but hey, you can't have everything.

One problem .......

....... Regimes tend to change when food gets short. "WHAT! You want another 4 years of this crap!!!!"  You could expect all the countries on 'the list of 7' to flip again. And the new regimes wouldn't be nice as they realize extra measures must be taken to stay in power by blaming the other guy and outside influences,  Haill, we play exactly the same game!

On the other hand , I think Australia will help w/ the starvation issue as they are rapidly cutting production forecasts.

Re: One problem .......

A couple of thoughts come to mind after watching that video from Goergia.....

Get a job..........and quit reproducing.......

I do agree with the lady that had the 6 kids.........They don't deserve not to have food.....and, they don't deserve to be brought into this world expecting someone besides their parents taking care of them.

Also, I'm wondering where the 6 dads are to those 6 children...........................................

Not sure what your point is but, the commentaries below the clip speak volumes.

I recognize that anything can be a take off point for ideologcal beliefs.

Re: food riots this year?

Considering the food riots from a few years ago, I don't know why there wouldn't be food riots in the coming year.  Maybe the U.S. needs to start a fuel for food export import program.  Three bushels of our corn for one barrel of your oil.  If the U.S. would adopt the Pickens plan, we'd have the world by the tail.  We could export both food and fuel.  The deficits would disappear almost overnight.

You know, the thing about all that is that it's hard to eat my cake when I've got my pointy white hood on.

What ever it takes to keep us in the "guilt-------y" position.  ------------ I am actually voting for Pie.

Visions of Bert Reynolds drivin a truck load of food stamps to Georgia to feed those "chillin".

Projects that require guilt to function are not worth doing.

Re: One problem .......

It doesn't really matter if we all agree with the food stamp program or not at this point.  The fact of the matter is that Hobby showed us a video of what happened with a little mishap.  If the government were to just end the foodstamp program at the end of the month, we don't even want to see the kinds of food riots that would take place all across the country.   Not only would there be violence at the gov offices, there would also probably be violence at the grocery stores as people started stealing what they needed.  We don't want to see a food riot in this country.
