Re: So BA, don't complain.

I do actually know people- not just anecdotally- who were unable to find vax slots locally in their urban and suburban communities but easily found them in outlying rural areas.

Re: So BA, don't complain.

I've generally been a bit too optimistic at each turn of this thing- probably owing to a positive view of human nature.

When I said that the 7 dma of national deaths might just go over 1K for a few weeks, it very well may be higher and longer if you consider that the current case surge is still pretty geographically isolated and the knowledge that for this variant in particular it won't stay that way.

It isn't hyperbole to say that this is a race between the vaccine and the variants, with public health measures now guaranteed to be less fully deployed.

Re: So BA, don't complain.

In our part of the country we have a saying:  "as crooked as the road to Kilkenny".

Following the "science" we've been fed for the last year plus reminds me of that saying.

Some good, some bad and a fair amount certainly came with an agenda.

Except for folks who are spring loaded to pounce with a "Yeah Buhwhatabout" for their own agenda or just because their feelings are hurt and it is painful to have to think, the scientific mainstream consensus has been pretty good.

Osterholm from U of M has been very good, in particular.

Re: So BA, don't complain.

It is actually a lot easier to just accept the consensus from people who have spent their lives studying these things than it is to fumble around looking for outlier dissenting opinions that conform with your druthers.

Although the AGW denial industry has a lot of monkeys well trained in the latter.

Re: So BA, don't complain.

Id love to say "Take it to the forum" and it certainly belongs there. Especially when the primary contributor starts posting to himself(or herself) when the thought process gets very slow.  But it is difficult when on the front page of this SF web site we have an article that quotes the Nature Climate Change Journal and presents its version of "Anthropogenic" climate change.  You have to believe that 40% of those educated in the US think that the ability to run a computer model of chosen assumptions and publish . Post it on a website constitutes known facts.  Then add the word scientific to give it some tone of credibility.  If the writers and editors don't have the scientific background to see through that "National Enquirer " material, we can't expect open mindedness or tolerance in the Marketing section from those who don't exist mentally outside the political playground.

By the way it is discriminatory.  All this concern for a low risk virus and no one asks about my blood sugar test this morning.    Nearly 100% of us over the age of 70 will die in the next 35 years.

None of this discussion is of any actual importance and is exactly what we ask for when we turn our health care over to glory grabbing bureaucrats.

Re: So BA, don't complain.

SWXXXXX,  You do know that scientific discovery is not always readily apparent to everyone,  and rarely is, if ever, to those who need something more absolute like a flat earth, or a sun orbiting the earth in the center of our universe, the only universe, of course.  Let's not call it science but a consensus, and right now the consensus among the scientists is that vaccine good, Covid bad, but not absolutely, we think.  If you need something more substantial, Sunday is a big day for the faith crowd and they can probably help you out there.

Re: So BA, don't complain.

SWXXXXX,  You do know that scientific discovery is not always readily apparent to everyone,

readily apparent is not necessary --- anyone can do what I did...

Search the American Meteorological Society for weather or climate Journal recommendations..... see if you find it.

Then I searched for the top 50 weather or climate Journal recommendations on an open search..... Still did not see this Journal listed.

and rarely is, if ever, to those who need something more absolute like a flat earth, or a sun orbiting the earth in the center of our universe, the only universe, of course. Sorry I can't make it easy for you but science or scientists, the term you are going to use in the next sentence, is always absolute.  It is the process of working with and searching for absolutes.  People who speculate about scientific subjects are fiction writers.

Let's not call it science but a consensus, and right now the consensus among the scientists is that vaccine good, Covid bad, but not absolutely, we think.  "Scientist" ---lets try the CDC and The WHO believe (and you and I) believe vaccine is good and Covid is not desirable.

If you need something more substantial, Sunday is a big day for the faith crowd and they can probably help you out there.  This statement is "a leading indicator" that this discussion needed to be on the forum...
An attack on those who believe in Creation....  Yet you should fully understand that nothing changes if they are right.

SWxxxxx , Guess I got on your nerves.

Not an attack on creationists, just a reasoned disagreement. And I agree with you that if "they" are right that it doesn't make a bit of difference. Happy Easter 🙂
