elcheapo, the only one you should be mad at is yourself. Everything you complained about is something you can do yourself and you can capture the margin that the coop is. Build your own bins, manage the storage risk, learn to basis and spread trade and sell to the end user. Buy inputs wholesale and apply them yourself. Look in the mirror and divest yourself of old ways!

Instead of Elcheapo maybe Elwino would be a better fit.  I have been getting a kick out of his posts for some time.  The poor me Chicago is screwing me and poor me the USDA is screwing me story has been entertaining if nothing else.  The USDA may not be correct, but NEWSFLASH thats what the trade uses to base many decisions as well as the technicals.  Not knowing what is happening in your area is nobodys fault but your own.  Maybe rent it out and releive your stress?

You are living in a capitalist country and people want to make abuck where they can. You may own a coop but their objective is to earn money for the business and you profitability is the least of their concerns. If you go broke another farmer will take your place. Even if they are profitable the coop will find real or imaginary need for the business. If nothing more than ten new pickup trucks for the help to ride around in.

However, if you live long enough they just might send you retained dividend check from back in 1960. It won't help you stay in business now but it might help with your nursing home bill.

Mean while you won't change them even if to take a board position, because they don't even think like you. They don't even want to pay deferred dividends to their dead customers even if they have the cash available. Your just going to have to vote with your feet. Go elsewhere to do your business. Hire a truck sell at a better price. You gotta business to run as well. RUN IT!
