milk market may go up some
CBS news just ran a news blurb on national news that 40,000 milk cows died in the blizzard in the southwest US.
Anybody know anything about this? Stock cattle affected?

Re: milk market may go up some
I don't have number data Hobby, but the dairy concentration sw of Amarillo, down to Hobbs got hit hard...
I am sure there was some beef herd damage in that area and east, but the big feedlot populations are mostly north of that area....The wind kept the big storm south.
Hope soneone south of us can fill us in.........

As to the stock cows I have no idea. Bigger deal may be the wasted feed and the lost milk production over time. Blizzards can have a long tail

No way around it. This is a diaster for those folks out there and my heart goes out to them. But.......Don't these folks out there raise cattle like the animal activists want them too? In the wide open range? Perhaps if these cattle were in confinement.....like say in a barn for shelter, they wouldn't have died. Just a thought.

Quote from the blog...
Goliath pummeled the area and now early estimates are saying that up to 20,000 cows and calves are dead. Just like Winter Storm Atlas, this story isn’t making the news and most of the people in our country will never know the story behind what will one day be known as the Blizzard of 2015.
