Re: milk market may go up some, cheese will 4 sure,
http://www.newschannel10.com/story/30868494/winter-storm-goliath-kills-thousands-of-area-dairy-cows
from the clovis/portales NM area on East thru Hale Center TX is pretty hard hit.
85 mph continuous winds with snow is just 2 much. woulda been alot less or maybe no deads if the wind had only been say 50mph.
There's 1,000's of dead stocker cattle that were out on wheat...and some dead range cows in spots.
dead effect on range cattle actually starts on the West over at Estancia / Vaughn NM ( bout 150 some mile West of Clovis ).

Re: milk market may go up some
the death loss was largely in these open lots. However over the past 10 yrs. there have been lots of building put up to house these cows. The reason has largely been due to the heat. It is easier to control the climate with a good shade.

Mark,
Are you seeing alot of respiratory problems or other health issues with the cattle that survived the storm?

Re: Over on the Rio Grande and West there was no storm,
the actual storm effect starts at Estancia thru Vaughn ( there's a few dead cows on the range there ).
Been getting feeder calves off the AZ High Country....they're fine.
Steph, you in the cow hunt this week? i figure we'll have 2,000 to 2,500 cattle.
Feeding cows will be cheaper ( because they eat alot of feed, lol ),
Calves been ticking up some...gonna keep on ticking 2 it seems.
Bred cows will be cheaper ( P 2's ...b March thru June calfers ).
