Re: not looking good
You are right that we never did anything when they cancelled purchases then bought again when prices were cheaper! We should have retaliated then but the amount of goods we buy from them is huge when compared to the beans we sell to them. And no politician wants to rock the consumer boat by pushing free and fair trade especially when economy is doing good.

Re: not looking good
Well, we`re in a slot of time where yields are out-stripping demand globally. That $8 corn was a juicy carrot with a long tail, so everyone worldwide that had more than a postage stamp plot of soil that would hold up a plant, grows something. We`re going on 6 years of above trend yields, the world population is moving slower to that coveted "9 billion" mark. So there`s growing pains economically.
Earl Butz and "fencerow to fencerow" sounded good, but a limited amount of nickels are thrown on the floor and we all scramble and fight for our share and there are none until some of us give up and then more nickels are dumped out and it starts all over again. You just have to be patient. You look at the world and the Soviets are no longer communist and started being competitors, the Chinese retain communism but have a quasi-capitalism so that`s a huge chunk of the world that is taking baby steps to improve themselves. While you look at this country (WOTUS Green New Deal) we are just an election away from really back sliding into what the rest of the world is trying to climb out of.

Re: not looking good
Most of them seem beholden to try and help by telling us how to use fertilizer more efficiently or somehow getting more out of the super expensive seed that will be planted!
Good Lord dont they realize that 99% if us do that on a daily basis!!!!

Re: not looking good
K-289, of course we have to feed the world, but when did anyone promise that you`d get rich doing it or even meet your expenses?
All you really get is a week in March (National Ag Week) where you get a "Thank you and keep up the good work!" ....that won`t pay your mortgage, but hey they do appreciate your efforts.

Re: not looking good
Live by the exports, die by the exports. This reminds me of when I was a little kid, I was at a farm sale and they were selling items off the rack, towards the end the ringman put 2 or 3 boxes of junk together and the ringman asks Dad if he`d give a dollar? Dad shook his head no, then the ringman put a dollar in one of the boxes and asked "will you give a dollar now?" Dad said "yup!" the auctioneer said "Sold!". The ringman took his dollar out of the box and handed it to me and said "Don`t let your oldman have this, he`s a tightwad" .

Re: not looking good
The problem with low prices is overproduction, fence row to fence row, due to subsides. If you take away the subsides and let the free market work, the strong and successful shall profit and prosper. Of course the strong dollar doesn't help out, but is minor compared to overproduction.
