You're right. a prime example is the bad image that ethanol has been given. Mostly, misinformation. Common sense isn't all that common anymore.

a simmilar issue was the "country of origin" labeling for meat products. I had no issue with that Or when bst was widely used by dairies, if it was labeled as containing it, i'd let the consumer decide. Maybe the farmers involved in the collapsing US sugar industry should push for "cool" labeling for all imported sugar products.
