set aside acres needed

im afraid we need acreage set aside for next year. That is if anybody will be here next year! I cant imagine if we had another bin buster this year! where would the price be if 15 bln bu  corn  4-5 bln beans and 3.5 bln wheat! i wonder if there will be ldp’s coming!?       I dont want the end users to pay thru the nose but how about $5 corn $6 wheat and $9.50 beans?   We can take a ccc loan on spring wheat for $4.10 but you are responsible for the difference if it goes to $3! Great program dont u agree?! lol

Mega Drouth

Rolls thru the Midwest in 2020.

I wish folks were more diverse there..... Then they might get a crop of something.

Re: Mega Drouth

i dont wish a drought on anyone. but we need to be compensated for providing inexpensive food.As farmers we try and make good planting decisions from the news that is going around. Trouble is when things change quickly we cant change once seed is in the ground. we arent like a factory that can slow production or build something else. Ive been thru lots of droughts and floods and hail and even the crisis of the 80’s but this one hurts really hurts. Not only in price collapsing but once again we are looked at as a unreliable supplier. Hopefully we will be able to find new uses or buyers but for now we are heading to the basement

Re: set aside acres needed

I would like to see a targeted set-a-side, one where the 30,000 acre farmer doesn`t use his payments to buy and rent more land while the small farmer buys groceries with his payment.  It should be voluntary with a price guarantee in exchange for laying fallow 10% or so of crop acres.  And it should be in conjunction with disincentives to importing feed if it got too high here.  Yes, corn and soymeal would be higher for livestock, but they would be protected from meat being imported on their end of sales.

It seems to me the charge of "socialist farm programs" have to be debunked.  It`s that we are such busy ants or busy chipmunks and there relatively are a lot of us proprietors out here compared to other businesses that we can`t do as John Deere and "close our factory" if we aren`t selling "$150,000 tractors".   Therefore to have an abundant food supply a 3rd party has to do supply management for us.   I mean we can`t go to a landlord and say "I`m not farming your farm this year...but i`ll want it back next year....maybe".
