OK, I give up.  What is "shake and bake"?

When I was a kid, it was a mix you put on chicken - you put the chicken in a bag with this stuff, shook it up and cooked it.

Then, it was used to describe trying to turn young soldiers in to sergeants with a 90 day course - put in the young solder, shake and bake and come out with a .........well, most didn't think it was a real sergeant, but you get the idea.

What does it mean as you used it?  I'm getting old, I guess.

I dunno just thought it was kinda catchy. Shake and Bake ready for lift off I guess. No hidden meaning.

I always thought 'Shake and Bake' meant if you waited a little while, you'd be in for a hot treat.   Of course it helps if you really like Shake & Bake chicken.
