this is a first for me
JC got to talking about Silage and then Dad decided that we should chop some out of one field that is almost to dry to make silage out of. Here is some pics of us getting started. IF this drives up the corn mkt. I expect a percentage! LOL
THis is Kossuth county Iowa.

Re: this is a first for me
jrsaijdranch, that is a spectacle.
did you see image jec22 posted. THAT is profound. i assume, during a normal year at this time, all the areas planted with corn/beans are more on the green side of spectrum.
from that image, it appears about 50% of planted area is green. i'm leapin here, but 50% 96 mil ac = 48 mil harvest??????????

Re: this is a first for me
JR when was that corn planted? That is as bad as the worst around here, mostly to my west. What is surprising is that you are located in an area not listed as dry on the drought map.

planted on the fifth of May. This is my worst looking portion of a field.
Here is the back half not on sand.

Re: this is a first for me
The last pic looks similar to my corn planted May 4th. But mine is on heavy clay. The DK corn seems to be handling the stress better than the elevators brand of corn.

Re: this is a first for me
I apologize to anyone I made fun of for saying we would harvest 90 corn in July. JR has proved them right.

Re: this is a first for me
JR thanks for sharing the pictures. Wow I thought Iowa would be the garden spot compared to us. I know Iowa got more rain than us. The corn on your sandy spots is what most corn looks like here.
