weather insurance "tools"

With the upcomming years not looking
So pretty (so we're told) they may (or may not) be something to look at.
First, for those who have late corn and
Beans and are walking the floors and demand
Total silence when the weather comes on
tv or radio. You can buy a policy now that
If it is a early freeze, you get some money.

For those with hay, grass or other, for next
Year you can get veg. Index insurance or
Rainfall index.....you can also get it on
Pasture. Another option is nap from fsa
But its is Max 50% plus 300 per county per
Crop.

There is another insurance policy that is
A package. For example. Wheat. It covers drought, late freeze, high temp and flooding
rains at harvest.

Something to look at, BUT you must enroll very soon.

Re: weather insurance "tools"

Elcheapo,
What does hail insurance typically cost? I had a grower get his spelt crop knocked flat last month and it is a total loss. Hail is so rare around here I don't think my kids have ever seen it. Do the premiums go up and down by crop value and geography or how does that work exactly?

Re: weather insurance "tools"

I checked into weather insurance for the 2013 growing season and found out it is very expensive, at least for my area (Central Kansas).  If the provider's want this thing to gain popularity in this area the premium's need to come way down, I mean by at least 50%-75%, and I'm very doubtful that will happen.

Re: weather insurance "tools"

Hello. James, where I am at it runs $4.75 to $5 per $100 of insurance. Some policies also
covers fire, and covers untilled it gets to
Elevator. Rates are based on location, some
Companies rate down to even sections. Depends on hail received.
I don't know if its available to you.
Another option might be a product from
Twc. At least here they have a program for
wheat (corn and beans also), that rolls
Drought, late freeze, too hot temps and
Rain (flood) at harvest. You organic people
might be able to get it since its not sub$$.
the. Other suggy. Was talking about
(Eweather) where you can. Insured
For a wx event. That. Could adversely effect
You, such as heavy rain before harvest, causing
sprouting.
It would. Be available to you. Since it is private

Hold. On when you price it but if not
Typical crop insurance, these two tools might be your only options
