what happened to the man named rulon
Didn't he sell grain based on moon signs. The last I heard he sold all his grain from last year because it was something silly like a moon eclipse. Or was it the Moon dogs showing up.

He did hit it about perfect.
In my view it was also simply a dead perfect hit on historical seasonality.

Nice chuckle Ken. Thanks for the humor.
Actually, we are going out to Sonoma in a few weeks, to do some bike touring of the vineyards, probably swing over and see the Redwoods as well. Sounds like a lot of fun. Then off to Costa Rica later in the winter. Everyone needs to find ways to get away from the media circus these days. Very hard not to let it screw with your mental energy and psyche if you watch the news, which I no longer do because it is always spun one way or the other, or is simply depressing. jmo

Re: what happened to the man named rulon
USpro...we use lots of statistical triggers. The fact that they have mostly worked since late 2012 is a more a testiment to the incredible power and emotion of a real drought on the market participants. It just makes it pretty easy. As noxy says, it was a "simple" dead on hit of historic seasonality. While that is true...you still have to work a plan that allows for those years like 07/08/11/12 where the seasonal was dead on wrong. Besides, in this business, next year is all that matters, what happened last year is quickly forgotten.
I make lots of stupid mistakes. IF I didn't I would own that island Ken mentioned. Lots of potential that is often squandered by mental weakness or the distractions of running a growing farm business.
