who believes the usda?
With all of the misses the usda has on their record who is gullible enough to believe it now when they claim there will be 10 ml. new crop acres?? Where are they coming from? and where are they getting their info? Like they are a now reliable source of info, Hmmmm!! Just more manipulation of the markets is what I say. Why don't they just say "it's the time of yr. when markets usually go down, and so they are." If $7 corn can't ration demand then corn under $7 sure isn't.

Re: who believes the usda?
well, right now because of my rotation, I am on target to grow 100 less acres of corn for next year. If corn rallies to $7.50 I will go corn on corn on another 100 acres, otherwise I will just stay with the rotation. I have been burned enough times switching, and watching the relative prices change on the non-contracted bushels so I don't win.

Re: who believes the usda?
The question is: Does anyone believe anything the federal government says? All of their projections about anything are based upon the roseist projections. Not reality.

Re: who believes the usda?
If I understand it correctly, they're saying we'll plant 10 million more acres of all crops. If you look at the total acres from 2010 and compare it to the total acres in 2008, we planted almost 10 million less acres in 2010. Basically, USDA is saying we'll match levels of 2008 for all acres of all crops. From my understanding, the way to accomplish 2008 acres for 2011 we'll need to boost double cropping of wheat and soybeans. We planted quite a few more acres of winter wheat than we did last year. I could see us matching or slightly surpassing 2008 plantings of all crops.

Re: who believes the usda?
I am thinking more double cropping too. For the last 2 yrs. in the last week of June, Ive traveled thru central and southern Il. and In. and noticed lots of wheat stubble and wondered why not no-til beans there. For the guys from that area, Why and will that change this year?.

Re: who believes the usda?
If you read Marketeye's report from Brazil the other day and seen that they are planting corn in the same field as harvesting soybeans (which I've never heard of before in Brazil this time of year) then why couldn't the U.S. come up with more acres in 2011 compared to 2008?? Farmers as a hole are greedy and will double crop more then ever at these prices and the market will once again "do it's job" in Cal Whewell's words in getting more production to try and cure high prices.

Who is manipulating the markets? Who benefits? What is the objective? Do you know anyone who is getting rich on this? I bet you have some good ideas you are eager to share with us. Please tell.

Re: who believes the usda?
This is our efficient gov't. They do a survey of cooperating farmers to determine intentions and planted acres. They do not just ask each states ASCS's office to email their totals in. That would be one branch of the gov't actually using another's dept information. What would all these people do at the USDA..
